I’m just curious…what will you need to achieve in 2020 in order to consider it a success?
Leave your response in the comments below!
Sincerely,
Kopywriting Kourse
P.S. Example responses would include:
– “Quit my office job and start freelancing full-time.”
– “Write one blog post per week for the entire year.”
– “Double my rates and find clients to pay them.”
– “Travel to three different continents.”
– “Start my eBay side hustle idea I keep putting off.”
– “Save $8,000 for a rainy day fund.”
I’m a bit late to this but better late than never! I’m building my blog, hoping to use my experience to add value to help digital entrepreneur newbies with their marketing and startup strategies.
Take courses on digital marketing and copywriting and probably start freelancing
Start a photography side hustle and make a grand a month off it
That sounds like a great goal that can be reverse-engineered!
My 2020 goal is to save to go on a trip and get a consistent flow in my business going.
That’s awesome Analise! You might want to more narrowly break down what “consistent flow” means.
If you can’t measure or track a goal with numbers, it has a lower chance of getting done.
Maybe “consistent flow” means putting out two blog posts a month for you. Whatever the goal, try to assign it a number!
Have my website (https://www.mostrecommendedbooks.com/) generate at least $10,000 a month in revenue.
Any copy help/ advice would be amazing
That’s a great goal Richard! I can’t answer too many questions inside these comments, but inside our KopywritingKourse you get direct access to me and other professional copywriters who help with all your copy :)

In 2020, I will…
Dang, you got your goals (AND the hard numbers) all set…..they all sound very accomplishable Fredric, can’t wait to watch you hit them all!
Create a product-based business that generates enough income for my wife to quit her job ($12k/mo profit).
That’s a noble goal Conrad, you can always work backwards how much you need to sell to make a certain income:
https://copywritingcourse.com/product-pricing-calculator/
Learn about starting vlogs on places to visit in Central Texas, a women’s cosmetic and women’s apparel industry online. Then gain 50,000 subscribers, by December 2020.
Sounds like a solid and ambitious goal Max!
My plan is to find a first client for my online programming course. I have all equipment to start but first I need to build an email list.
Hey Derek, building an audience is definitely a crucial part of selling.
I would put up an email list collection ASAP and start by asking your social media friends to join, then start putting out content to collect emails over time (if this is what you wanna do)!
I lost 50 lbs this year and I purchased a domain to start blogging to help me document the process and help others who are interested in doing the same thing.
For 2020 to be successful I want to lose the next 50 lbs and actually start blogging on my site once a week.
Hey Kate, learning to blog and keeping up with it is a great goal. It will quickly show you if you enjoy it or not, as making content is pretty tough to keep up over the long run (however it can be both fun and rewarding if you enjoy it) :-)
Become a full-time copywriter and make $8-10k per month.
Meditate every day.
Go on our first family vacation.
Hi April, I actually did the meditation one this year and now meditate or do tapping meditations most days. What I recommend to be successful in this habit, is to download a few on your phone both apps and bookmark a few links. By having a few options and easily accessible, you might be more likely to use them. I then do even when my headphones broke putting kids to bed, when I wake up, or when angry or stressed or having downtime.
Hey April, these all seem like solid and very trackable goals….best of luck hitting them all in 2020!!
Learn Copywriting
Get Hands Dirty with Cpa Marketing
Make existing Blog more successful
These look like solid goals! I would however try to assign a number to the “Make existing blog more successful.”
You should determine a number to hit that would indicate success (like “I want 200 visits per day to my blog”) or something like that!
Embrace the fact that the world is going through fundamental transformation and learn to adapt, be flexible and be happy by enjoying the present.
Hey Soledad, yes the world is evolving, but the positive side is that it’s never in history been easier to learn new things.
For example you’re reading my blog, interacting with me, all through the internet. This also means whatever you want to learn, you can often do for free online :)
I want to finish writing my book (and maybe releasing it to the public) and deliver personal development workshops and women’s circles at least once / month each.
That’s great Alexandra! Do you have a hard deadline for your book?? If you don’t then books tend to drag ooonnnnn and on. Make sure to set a date to be done!
Write and self-publish a novel that I have already written a feature-length script for.
Awesome Gary! When you plan to be done writing??
As author Neil Strauss says: “I always ask people for their pencils-down date. If they don’t have a hard date set, they never finish.”
My 2020 goals are SMART:
These are great! Now you just have to break them down into the small steps with deadlines :)
Well there ya go, all very actionable and measurable goals!!
I have already started the ball rolling on starting my own blogging website by purchasing a domain and web hosting, and installing WordPress. I have come to a standstill now, because I can’t decide on the best choice for a paid theme for the site.
Anyway, in due time I will decide, and once I get the website up and running, I will start blogging! In 2020, I want to get consistent with blogging, posting at least once a week for the first 1/2 of the year, and upping it to twice a week the second half of the year.
Hey Christine, congrats on starting your blog! Try not to overthink the theme thing. That’s something you can always change down the road. The important thing is starting to write. If you’re worried about spending money on one that you don’t like, just start with a free one until you have a better idea of what you want things to look like. I use the free version of Astra and it’s worked fine for me. Good luck!
I think you’re overthinking this — just pick any theme — either Genesis or Divi and then start writing. You won’t get traffic right away, need some ground work :)
Hey Christine I agree, you’ve got to pick one and move on. You can also do just a basic WordPress install, you don’t really need anything much more complex for now.
But it’s great that you’re learning the skill of building a WordPress site, there’s TONS of free info online, and if you ever need help just hire someone from Fiverr or CodeMentor.io !
2020 Goals
– earn on average $3k a month (a stretch goal bc I’ve only hit this goal once in 2019)
– Learn video editing
– Plan a wedding/Get married for under 4.5k
– get that LLC (i get overwhelmed every time i start the process of just googling.)
– be more intentional with growing website traffic. currently, over 300 of my posts are not SEO optimized.
– book 4 weddings
p.s. i just love your content and you’ve been a longtime hero of mine.
Awesome goals, Linda! If you want a beautiful wedding for a fraction of the cost, I recommend doing it in Colombia ;)
Thank you Linda, and your reach seems to be growing on Instagram and SEO, congrats!
Your goals look great and very measurable.
LLC’s are often over rrated, you can usually do business or freelancing without it (in fact you can make millions of dollars and still not incorporate). Sometimes people over complicate the LLC stuff.
If you REALLY WANT ONE just go to your county Secretary of State office and fill out a small form and pay ~$20. Easy!
My goals in 2020 are:
1.) To get my first paid copywriting gig.
2.) To move out of my parents.
Hey Miguel, those both seem like pretty good goals to me :)
Great goals, Miguel!
The first gig is usually the the most challenging, but if you put yourself out there consistently, you’re bound to land something soon!
Make as much money from selling my art as I do from the day job (about £1k per month)
Oh nice Ian, we actually did a whole thing about this recently!
https://copywritingcourse.com/how-to-sell-art/
Hey, cool – I managed to miss that one – off to have a read. Thanks!
I started 2019 with $0/m, now ending it and making about $2k/mo online.
I want reach the $10/m in 2020 and work more passively.
Hey Chris that’s awesome you’ve gone from $0 to $2,000/mo! Before trying to get TOO passive, I would suggest you further build out your client base and slowly start to find something you can “productize” for them as well as a manual service.
This combination can be a great transition to scalability!
https://copywritingcourse.com/what-is-scaling/
Nice work, Chris! Looking forward to seeing your progress this coming year!
The last few years have been difficult with medical problems preventing me from working and putting me into debt. This year I’d like to work towards clearing my debt ($10k) and start slowly building up savings ($200/mo).
Well it’s good you know the quantifiable goal, now it should be easy to work backwards to help accomplish that!
I’d love to work as a UX designer.
I’ve spent the last six months grinding 12-hour days to learn UX design and finished some projects. Currently building my portfolio website and resume and I really hope that my skills are good enough.
Second goal would be losing 30% of my body weight. Man, I grew so fat sitting on my ass doing nothing.
Hey Kim, that’s awesome and attainable!
I would highly suggest just keeping up with trends such as UX Writing which combine UX Design + Writing into one function.
I would also recommend trying to become at least a double or triple threat so you can be more dangerous than the average UX Designer :)
Earn $4,600 a month. Travel to the UK and the USA. Be able to run again after recovering from my knee surgery. Finish writing the book that’s in my head. Stop procrastinating so much.
Oh nice, these sound like attainable goals for 2020.
I think you should design “systems” around each of these goals so you accomplish them. Like the running goal should incorporate some system that makes you do a certain amount of rehab stretches per day. This will have a high chance of getting you running again than sheer willpower.
These are awesome goals, Dunstan! I agree with Neville, stick to a solid rehab plan and it’s amazing your body can heal itself. Good luck!
Land a job as a web designer / front-end web developer.
Nice Ronnie! Are you taking any classes or designing any pages? If you really wanna kick off your learning, you might wanna post one of these scripts on your personal Facebook page about helping a friend design a simple website:
https://copywritingcourse.com/how-to-make-100-dollars/
I dig these posts.
2019 was a lot of discovering areas that I am weak in. I’d like 2020 to be the year that I finish reach the self-development goals I found and become someone who executes at a high level.
Action Items:
– Build my blog to 1 million words
– Run 10k, half marathon and marathon
It’s great you have solid numbers in your goals, as that makes them really easy to “work backwards” to accomplish.
Sounds like you’re off to a good start Quinton :)
1) Finish transforming our top of funnel marketing and inside sales programs into a world-class team with streamlined and tested processes and a state of the art marketing tech stack.
2) Generate the content (blog posts, webinars, white papers, etc.) that can be formed into a book in early 2021 to showcase our company’s expertise.
3) Stop neglecting my personal blog and make it more personal, not just business.
4) Finish sorting, cleaning and digitizing 120 years of family photos and memorabilia that no one ever got around to organizing. OMFG
5) Get rid of stuff I don’t need and feel OK that I’m not going to forget my grandmother, grandfather, great-grandmother or great-grandaunt (or love them any less) if I get rid of their faded, chipped, worn-out old household items that I don’t use and don’t need. Starting with the golden wedding anniversary gifts from 1972 that never got used because they were being saved for a “special occasion.”
6) Use all my coolest and nicest stuff often and never save it for a special occasion. It’s OK if the good stuff gets broken or worn out because my kids are NOT going to want it.
This is great Katherine! You seem to know exactly what you want to hit.
I like all these goals EXCEPT the 1st one, it sounds kinda vague. You might want to attribute some hard numbers to it, such as:
Something like this can give you hard numbers to measure and work towards!
Start and finish my 3rd adult coloring book
Create a Instagram quotes on a monthly basis.
Sounds like you can do this within a year for sure Sue!!
Make $1 writing copy. Seriously, making $1 will really boost my confidence.
I have some small copywriting projects if you’re interested. My budget is very modest but the scope and complexity of the work are appropriate for a junior copywriter.
…dang Stefan you’re already getting offers thrown your way!!
Hey Stefan, a BUUUNNNCCCHHH of people have found success following this method of freelancing:
https://copywritingcourse.com/how-to-make-100-dollars/
…it basically makes you post on your social media to your friends that you are willing to help with certain tasks, and almost everyone gets unexpected responses!
Do you do email copywriting?
If so, get in touch, I have something we can do to get you that first $1.
Surprise everyone by opening the brewery on our goal date of April 1. Then surprising them further by being a bigger success than any of us can currently imagine!
That sounds awesome Wendy…..do I get free beer for life???? 😛
Publish my first book.
You got this Allen. Set a daily goal and write. Get a great technical and content editor. Then publish and promote like crazy constantly for a solid year +.
Hey Allen, I’m doing this also this month!

I wrote a book a few years ago that still brings in sales all the time with this method:
https://copywritingcourse.com/how-to-self-publish-a-book/
Self publishing a book is surprisingly easy nowadays!
My 2020 goals are:
1. Earn $5,000 a month
2. Meet and Marry my soulmate
3. Maintain a weight of 69kgs
4. Be spiritually conscious
5. Socialize once a week
6. Relocate to Canada
7. Read a book a week.
Oh dang Kenyangal, you’ve got quite the year ahead!! Make sure to “systemize” those goals.
Like if you want to “Meet and marry your soulmate” you might want to somehow quantify that by going on a specific number of dates a month, or trying to meet X amount of new people per week.
Neville, thanks for reading and responding. I’m working on my daily systems now.
Awesome goals, Kenyangal. I totally agree with the more specific, the better. That way you can work backwards and know exactly what you have to do each month/week/day in order to achieve them (or at least give you the best opportunity to acheive them). Good luck!
Thank you Mitch. I am working on my daily to do list that would help me achieve the goals
Kenyan gal are you kenyan? I am Aussie and a few westerners I know travelled to Kenya and met their soulmate including me, lol got 3 kids now! Maybe meet after relocating haha.. I would disagree on dates like a system. I have a friend in Nairobi who was found that and he seemed.desperste and not genuine and scared ladies off. I would suggest going out for.sure and meeting people but being open to what god has in store a d your heart is telling you…
I want to hire 2 x admin staff, 1 x ops manager, a PM and gain 1 x commercial unit for my businesses (plus launch a digital product for internal (training) & external (marketing) use!
That sounds pretty accomplishable Chris….probably in FAR LESS than 1 year!
Those sound like great goals, although I would put some hard numbers on them. For example instead of “financial freedom” I would define that to mean something specific for your situation like “I want to earn $1,500 on the side per month outside of my job.”
Those goals with numbers tend to be more measurable and accomplishable!
2020 would be a success if I am able to build a $ based income. I am no word wizard or even a native English speaker, but I love the art and science of copywriting. I have seen the massive impact the right copy can have. And having a skill that I love, and being able to earn money for it would be a huge success. 2020, here I come!
Hey Johan, I would suggest you start with this:
https://copywritingcourse.com/how-to-make-100-dollars/
….the reason is you might get freelance gigs from OTHER tasks than just copywriting. Many people think copywriting is the only thing they want to do, but forget there’s a whole world of web development, sales etc out there requiring lots of help.
Hi Neville
great idea. I do have a lot of knowledge on seo and even web development. So could maybe help someone out with those. Love your blog!
1. Earn equivalent of my job from side hustle.
2. Travel to non-home country.
3. Have at least 1000 subscribers on youtube
even one of them is a success for me. More is bonus.
These sound like very actionable and measurable goals, can definitely achieve these in a year Rohan, good luck!!
Increase average daily user logins to 1,000 on my social media site https://mondayhabit.com
Sounds like a very accomplishable goal Ian, what number are you at right now??
Basically zero… well there’s a few. I just “told the world” about it 2 weeks ago, so I’m still trying to gain some traction.
Actually, would you be into sharing what a typical day is like for you? I’m sure your readers will love an inside look into the real Neville. There is a feature called a Snapshot (https://mondayhabit.com/features/snapshots/) that helps you share your typical day… at the bottom of that page are a few real snapshots from users.
“Quit my office job and start freelancing full-time.”
“Write one blog post per week for the entire year.”
“Double my rates and find clients to pay them.”
I think all of these are good goals for me.
Hmmmm, those are good goals, but are they the ones you truly want? Those were just examples we gave.
If you’re not very committed to these goals, you might wanna find different ones that are important to you!
So.. been in baby having mode and next year will be part time work maybe 2 days
1. Get our own house with a veranda and yard with trees and a veg garden and maybe a water tank and solar panels
2. Lose the baby weight by finding swimming, gym class or walking time 4 times a week
3. My enviro green joy website ~ start blogging fortnightly and get a product out for sale and or affiliates get direction of.this one
4. Implement kopykourse fully and get better folio using 2 family members businesses
5. Fund college for my 2 young women I sponsor
.
Complete a set of short stories…
That sounds like a reasonable goal Uzma!
I want to achieve financial strength & freedom forever
And I want to meet new healthy friends
and I want to do yoga & healthy food to have healthy body
🥴🥴
what’s going on for healthy ??
by the way I liked your post about goals and processes
what do you want to achieve Neville
Hey Lina, these all look great, but I would HIGHLY recommend you put some numbers towards these goals so you can track/plan them. Much like the Process Vs Outcome method.
Like instead of “wanting to be healthy” maybe make it a goal to go to yoga once per week, and get to X weight by X day.
Success seems like the wrong word.
So, I’m hoping to GROW in my copywriting career.
Like get a better copywriter job – sell more products?
Hello Neville,
I’m hoping to grow my copywriting business. I’d like to get clients and make it my full-time job. That way I’ll have more time and freedom to enjoy life.
Hey Iman, you might want to first see if copywriting is the right choice for you (some people don’t like writing as much as they think).
Might I suggest trying to make your first money from it, and seeing if it’s the right choice:
https://copywritingcourse.com/how-to-make-100-dollars/
That sounds good Seetaram, I look forward to watching you grow!!
Sounds like a great goal, Seetaram. Do you have any specific milestones you’d like to meet?
Getting my film into one theatre.
That sounds like an attainable goal Abhishek!
