The US Elections are coming up, and this graphic shows the full steps off alllllll the different events that it takes to elect a president:

It just seems like you pick two people and vote, but there's all this other stuff going on as this graphic shows!

    Wisdom:

I liked this....several nice nuggets of wisdom on this little card:

    wisdom-card.jpg

    Interesting:

I don’t see as many bumper stickers anymore. I assume it’s because:

    - To express views you’ve got social media.
    - Put too many on and you potentially look a bit kooky.

It’s always fascinating to read everything on a bumper sticker heavy car, it’s like an analog social feed!

    Picture:

I helped brand some cattle this weekend:

    branding-cattle.jpg

A funny observation: While this does kind of hurt the animal in the moment, when you release them from the cage instead of running away, they just kind of hang around like, "Sooooo, what's happening you guys?!!"

    Essay:

This was an interesting post I saw: A company called Keap (which was formerly known as InfusionSoft) sold for $80m.

This is not great because they're revenue is $85m, and they raised $207m (yikes 😬) :

I personally used Infusionsoft (or "Keap") for 7 years so as a longtime customer I know why this probably happened:

    • InfusionSoft was stupidly hard to used! People nicknamed it "Confusion-soft." Everything took 10+ clicks to do. I even hired several expensive consultants to do certain things that should've been obvious.

    • You needed a frekain' PhD to figure out how to run basic reports. Like...just seeing your open and click rates was always a big chore.

    • I stayed so long because the product was ultra sticky and the switching cost was soooo high. My whole business ran on it (email, email collection, downloads, payments), so it was very difficult to get off the platform.

    • Their email deliverability SUCKED, they would put you on shared servers with tarnished IP's, and every few months without fail they'd just cancel your email service until you performed their cleanup routines. On other services this hasn't happened to me once...ever.

    • They left email cleanup 100% up to the customer. They would allow obvious honeypot and spam emails to signup repeatedly, and blame you (and charge you) for duplicates. This was a huge gripe for me.

    • Leaving InfusionSoft meant porting over all my email contacts, complicated email sequences, and hundreds of embedded download and signup forms on my sites. When other alternatives like ConvertKit were available, it was still hard to move off.

The only thing that convinced me to move was @nathanbarry (ceo of ConvertKit) calling saying how good ConvertKit was, and that they'd migrate me to ConvertKit for free. He was right, sending email has been 100x easier with ConvertKit.

To be fair, Infusionsoft did one thing well: It did everything you needed (email, payments, landing pages etc). However that seemed to be the downfall: They spread way too thin. They're engineering team was probably swamped with issues from various products, making it hard to focus on any one product.

I really enjoy your Friday Swipes newsletters! I was surprised to see a couple of grammar/spelling mistakes in today's version.  Since you're known as a copywriting guy, I think it's more important for you to get this kind of thing right.  Here are the examples:

This is not great because they're revenue is $85m, and they raised $207m (yikes 😬😞 (should be their)

InfusionSoft was stupidly hard to used! (should be use)

Thanks Rhonda! Yes, I make a ton of mistakes....and I generally write these emails last minute so it's even worse 😬

Ok, admit it: you only included the cattle branding pic to show off your guns... 😂😂

I mean.....we all know that was at least 80% of the reason 🤣

You need to update that infographic with a ladder that bypasses the Primaries and Caucuses 🙂

Interesting commentary on InfusionSoft. I've used Kartra for a long time, and suspect they suffer from many of the same issues. $80M buyout is a pretty rough exit for them.

Hey Jojo, I totally didn't even think about that for this election, great point!

And yeah, I liked InfusionSoft for many aspects, but my main reason for using them (Email + Payments) started to suffer compared to other alternatives 😕

    Love your newsletter.

    Today got a little sloppy:

InfusionSoft was stupidly hard to used!

Keep up the good work my friend.

Enough of the copywriting tips already—what I need to know is your workout routine and diet!

LOLOL.....I've started using Future for a workout app, and I've used MyBodyTutor.com 3 times over the years to correct my diet.

My diet used to be just absolutely atrocious, only being kept in check my youth and lots of working out. Over time I've had to adjust!
