Email 2:
Subject Line: quitting your job….the only way I’ve seen it done successfully
Sent day 2.
We did
this talk about firing people's asses before they poison your company....but what if you're on the other side. You're not the boss, but an employee?
A lot of people want to get the f-heck out of their job soon as some (insert magical event where they have a lot of money) happens.
You can either:
--Slip on a tomato at Wal-Mart and sue.
--Play the lottery like most poor people.
--Bang some rich old guy and claim it's his baby.
--Marry some saggy-skin old woman with a lot of money.
Note the sarcasm in my voice ;-)
Well what if you want to eventually quit your job without having to hump some old broad?
You can't just QUIT outright, because this situation plays out in your head:
I HATE THIS SHITTY JOB!!
....but at the same time....
I NEED MONEY.
So here's two short stories about two people I know who've successfully quit their jobs THE RIGHT WAY:
CASE #1.) Adam McFarland:
Had a pretty good engineering job at an engineering company, but knew he had to leave eventually to make REAL money.
Adam started dabbling with little projects on the side, and after a while one of them took off enough to where he could quit his full-time job.
CASE #2.) Ryan A. (he never lets me publish his name):
Had a sweet-ass gig in a great city, was making a healthy-six-figure salary, and reasonably liked his worked. Why did he quit?
He told me something I'll never forget:
"Neville....everyday I go to work at this huge company, and it's like my soul is slowly being sucked out of me....and there's still juuuust a little bit of "Ryan" left in me."
He immediately started dabbling in projects on the side, and
within 6 months was doing well enough to leave his job. Giggity.
So what similarities did you notice in these easy-transition cases?
They both
started dabbling in other businesses on the side BEFORE quitting!
Essentially they:
Jumped ship, but only when they had another ship to jump to!
Not only that, but they each tried several projects that FAILED before they hit their job-quitting successes.
What they were doing, was
validating business ideas before going full-on with them.
They didn't throw a tantrum, then storm out of their office with a "FUCK YOU!!" and middle fingers in the air. No no.
They first got something going that was profitable enough to pay all those pesky billlllz.....and then ran with it.
They first validated their idea.
....They first validated their idea.
.........They first validated their idea.
..............They first validated their idea.
I repeated that four times to drive it in your skull !!
Most "wantrepreneurs" come up with business ideas that neeevver get off the ground, or just barreeellyy make a profit .....because they don't validate their ideas first.
And it's a shame,
because it's so damn simple compared to what people "think" it involves.
Over the next seven days these emails will show you how to validate your business ideas for free.
Read each one carefully, and save them for future reference.
Peace,
Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. Watch for the next email tomorrow....it's gonna show how to cure you of "wantrepreneur-ism".
Email 3:
Subject Line: [1/7] Why people end up as Wantrepreneurs
Sent day 3.
It's so weird how most people can go through life, and NEVER start their own business.....even just a tiny side business.
"I WANNA START A BUSINESS AND MAKE SOME MONEY ON THE SIDE AND THEN QUIT MY JOB :-D :-D :-D !!!"
Sound familiar Young Sumo-ling?
We call these people
"Wantrepreneurs" because they WANT to be entrepreneurs, but never DO anything.
Here's how it happens to them (don't cry if you realize this is YOU):
STEP 1.) They realize that working a job will unlikely make them rich. In fact, working a job barely lets them do ANYTHING cool, so they start looking for other options to make money.
STEP 2.) They start looking for IDEAS to start a business...they want to build a "Muse" business (That's what Tim Ferriss calls a small business that allows you to work from anywhere, and it pays for your lifestyle).
STEP 3.)They get obsessed with certain ideas they think will make a lot of money.
STEP 4.) They start researching how to start a business, and get in the trap of doing EVERYTHING involved in starting a business, except anything useful.
For example, they'll do all this crap:
- Buy sleek business cards.
- Start looking for people to invest.
- Hire a designer to make a company logo.
- Keep their idea a secret so no one will "steal" it.
- File an LLC corporation so they're a "real" company and write "CEO" on their business cards.
NOW ASK YOURSELF:
Did annnyyy of that stuff actually help the odds of that business succeeding?
NO!
And if you thought
"Yes, that stuff is very important", you damn well better
pay attention to the next emails I'm gonna send you....I will smash those thoughts.
Sincerely,
Neville - A fatass Sumo
P.S. Tomorrow I'm going to show you three ways to overcome being a Wantrepreneur for the rest of your life....
Email 4:
Subject Line: [2/7] How to stop being a loser Wantrepreneu
Sent day 4.
Good morning my little wantrepreneur!
I'm writing this on my Macbook Air whilst wearing thick-rimmed hipster glasses. They don't help me see any better, but they make me look like I'm a writer.
To everyone else in the coffee shop, I give off an appearance. A certain look that I want to be identified by.
And this is EXACTLY the same thing most wantrepreneurs fall into. They want to LOOK like they're in motion.
They want to LOOK like they're big-time businessmen (writing "CEO" on their business cards).
They wanna give off the impression to girls/family/society that they're ambitious/tenacious/impressive.
Awwwww how cute they are!
Too bad most of them are doomed to fail before they even start.....and I know why:
They don't validate their businesses first.
That's it. They simply don't validate if their idea will ACTUALLY work in the real world FIRST.
Here's almost exactly how the whole saga plays out:
ONE.) They brainstorm a bunch of ideas, and one really pops out.
TWO.) They immediately jump in and start building the idea which will take months.
THREE.) They start doing "business-y" things like forming a corporation, designing business cards, buying Herman Miller Aeron chairs and looking for office space.
FOUR.) Soon they start running out of money, and are experiencing VERY little success.
FIVE.) They're finally forced to abandon ship and then everyone goes and gets jobs.
.....but there's a very easy fix that could've made this failed company a success pretty easily:
BY FIRST VALIDATING IF THE BUSINESS WILL WORK!!
So freakin simple, yet so freakin ignored. Mostly because people don't know how.
Validating an idea is such an easy part of building a business.....but most wantrepreneurs jump right in without thinking.
Now....I used to do this when I was younger. But you know what? I rarely worked on very successful projects during that "I don't wanna validate" time.
Most of the "businesses" I started just took a bunch of time, and made very little money.
HERE'S A SECRET: Doing a real-world validation test is actually extraordinarily simple and cheap.
In the email I'm sending you tomorrow, I'm showing you step-by-step how to validate all your ideas....with zero dollars.
Watch for it tomorrow,
Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. You should archive or save these emails somewhere....when they're all done, they'll be your personal how-to guide to validating & starting your business!
Email 5:
Subject Line: [3/7] How Mickey validated a stupid idea BEFORE dropping his entire savings on it
Sent day 5.
One of my friends (who now runs a 250+ person company) actually started out as a stupid wantrepreneur like you.
Here's the 4-minute story of exactly how he broke out of his shitty wantrepreneur habits:
------------------------------------------------
After trying a bunch of stupid "businesses" with friends (aka simple websites), he finally realized that he was never making any goddamn money from them.
So one day he got a BRILLIIIAANT (sarcasm) idea.
It was presidential election time, and everyone was wearing those wristbands with either red or blue....to show their support for republicans or democrats. Whatever.
Well Mickey got the idea to make SANDALS with either red or blue.
He called them
Political Sandals!
(I'm laughing my ass off thinking about how hilarious this is)!
Mickey immediately went into "typical-stupid-wantrepreneur" mode....but this idea was different....it would actually cost a lot of money to make the sandals.
He priced it out, and it looked like he would need $5,000 to manufacture a batch of sandals in China. Yikes.
$5,000 is a helluvalotofmoney to a broke college kid.
So instead.....Mickey had a flash of brilliance.....and STOPPED THINKING LIKE A WANTREPRENEUR.
He realized,
"Wow....maybe people don't even WANT these sandals, and I'm gonna spend all my savings AND borrow money to make these?"
So all he did was make a Photoshopped version of the sandals, and then started hitting up every political forum and showing them off....hoping to make at least 100 sales.
He did this obsessively.....for MONTHS.
He ended up getting only TWO orders!
Fortunately Mickey validated his idea first before sinking all his savings (and time) into this idea.
His validation test proved that no one really wanted his product.
If he had stayed in Wantrepreneur-Mode he's be out thousands of dollars, months of time, and have a garage full of blue sandals no one wants to buy.
You see how VALIDATING an idea can predict the future of your business?
Tomorrow I'm sending you an email showing another validation.....but one that succeeded.
Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. You can watch the video of Mickey talking about his political sandals idea here. It starts at the 16min and 45sec mark:

Email 6:
Subject Line: 4/7] Four biz validation tests….in less than a month
Sent day 6.
Here's how a 41 year old FINALLY killed his inner wantrepreneur:
Mark lives in Europe, and has 4 business ideas he's been sitting on for over 10 years.
He's always
WANTED to start a business.....
He's got
IDEAS to start a business.....
He's even got the experience to
BUILD those businesses....
...SO WHAT THE HELL IS THE FREAKIN HANG UP??
Mark suffers from typical "Overloaded Wantrepreneurs Syndrome".
That means he had SO many ideas, and his brain thought of SO many different ways to build them.....that
he just got overloaded and never started on ANY of them.
What a shame. This guy could've been an entrepreneur long ago if he just followed the SumoBusinessBlueprint advice.
Sound familiar at all (aka....does this sound like it might be YOU)?
Well let's show how Mark finally overcame this:
STEP #1.) He watched the
SumoBusinessBlueprint where us fatass Sumo's demonstrated how to FIRST VALIDATE any of your ideas for $0.00 before starting.
STEP #2.) Once his eyes were opened that you can start a business BEFORE "starting" a business.....he applied this to those precious 4 ideas he had. Once they were all validated, he could tell which one would be the MOST successful.
STEP #3.) He made all 4 validation tests in less than 2 days. He then took the next month to push people to his test pages (they were simple Wordpress pages with an email collection box).....that's it.
STEP #4.) It gets interesting here Young Sumo-ling:
Mark found out that:
2 of his ideas TOTALLY flopped.
1 of his ideas SORT OF got traction, but not much.
1 of his ideas TOOK OFF, and he even got customers to pre-pay for his services!!!!
Okaaayy.....It's pretty obvious now which business idea is the one to roll with!
Especially since people PAID for one of the ideas.....If you can get people to PAY you for a service or product you haven't even made yet....
then you're doing something very right!!
Mark got 3 doctors to buy his services before he even designed the program (it was some type of medical billing program he wanted to build).
BAM. THE WANTREPRENEUR JUST DIED!
Because of these "stupid" validation tests Mark ran (which all cost him $0.00 by the way).....he knew EXACTLY which idea worked in the real world.
This means now Mark is already building out his medical billing software and getting ready to ship it to clients.
After all those years of sitting on ideas, being confused about WHICH one to start.....Mark finally killed his inner wantrepreneur and is building a successful business.
All because of what we taught in a "stupid little product" called SumoBusinessBlueprint.
And in a few days, the "Case Study Version" of SumoBusinessBlueprint will be coming out.
-Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. Tomorrow I'm gonna show you how to build out your own validation test.....so you can see if the REAL WORLD liked your idea (and it'll cost you $0.00).
Email 7:
Subject Line: [5/7] The ghetto ad which can save you years of time.
Sent day 7.
Every time I hear a wantrepreneur talk about how they can
"Make this cool idea and it's goona be soooo great!!"
..I flip the hell out.
....and kick a trash can.
.......and sometimes even kick a puppy.
It's because they're THINKING about their idea too damn much, and doing NO ACTUAL real-world tests.
I can already hear you say,
"OK Neville.....then show us wantrepreneurs what you're talking about if you're soooo smart."
Fine....I will. In the next few minutes this email will show you how to make a basic page to validate your idea.
Let's pretend we're trying to sell Wordpress design services to people in our area. Before we "design a portfolio" and "try to cold-call clients" .....let's do some simple tests:
LET'S START:
----------------------
If you're trying to measure if people will pay for your idea or service.....try something like this.....it'll be a quick ad on Craigslist.
Craigslist is easy & free.....and it gets a shitload of traffic....so it's perfect for us.
The point of this to
see if people call us up and want to PAY $ for our services:
So we'd make a simple ad like this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I MAKE WORDPRESS SITES IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE.
Do you need a Wordpress site put up and customized....but don't know how to do it?
Let ME do it for you!
I have 2 years of Wordpress experience and know how to customize themes.
I can even work with you personally, and we can design your site together. I'll even train you how to use your brand-new site (Wordpress is really easy once setup)!
I charge $25/hour and can meet you anywhere in Austin.
Call Neville at 713-301-1546
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a mockup of the ad I put up on Craigslist (took me 2 minutes to make in photoshop):
(click
here if you can't see the image)
That's it!
Just put that bad-boy up on Craigslist....in this case we'd place it in the SERVICES → COMPUTER section.
I've done this before, and started getting calls within a few hours of people wanting to meetup and PAY me!
Most "wantrepreneurs" will do useless stuff like:
- Make a portfolio (and spend a lot of time).
- Register an LLC company (and waste money).
- Try to set themselves up as a "We-Do-Everything" company and lose a lot of niche-power.
.....instead....just GET THE DAMN BALL ROLLING FIRST!
Within the first few clients you'll make money PLUS get insanely-great feedback on what clients want and need (not to mention you're getting PAID this whole time)!
See how easy that was to validate?
If we start getting calls and emails requesting our service....BOOM....we're in business.
If no one bites....then we may have a service most people don't need.
Peace,
-Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. Tomorrow I'm showing you my #1 go-to place for validating ideas right away (and fo FREE)! Watch for the email tomorrow morning.
Email 8:
Subject Line: [6/7] You’re retarded if you don’t put your idea on Craigslist first
Sent day 8.
...the last email showed a quick step-by-step on how to do a quick validation (pretty damn simple wasn't it)?
Well THIS email will show you how to "drive traffic" to your validation test.
I hate phrase
"drive traffic" because it's fluffy.
What it really means is:
GET PEOPLE (WHO ARE INTERESTED) TO LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE SELLING!
If you've been paying attention to the last emails, you know how to ghetto-validate some ideas.
It involves:
- Making a SIMPLE test (like a single page with a "buy now" button...... or a survey asking if people are interested).
- Getting a few mofo's to that test.
- If people respond really well.....GOLD!
If people respond with a whimper and shrug....maybe your idea sucks.
"Buutttt Neeevvilllee I dunno how to get traffic to my site!"
Ugghh, stop your whining little wantrepreneur and read on:
My FAVORITE FAVORITE FAVORITE way to validate an idea is on Craigslist.
It's just so damn simple to post on Craigslist.....and free.....and there's ALREADY tons of "customers" browsing around!
It's enough to get my greedy-money-grubbing head spinning!!
Let's run through some business ideas where I think validating on Craigslist would be easiest:
- If I wanted to start real estate consulting....I'd post my services on Craigslist.
- If I wanted to start designing Wordpress sites for people (my email [5/7] had an ad about this....which people actually CALLED within hours of posting)!
- If I wanted to offer high-end dog-sitting only for pugs named Waffles.
- If I wanted to start a high-end S.A.T. tutoring service for only the smartest Asian kids in high school (that would racist, ANNND hilarious)!
It doesn't matter what the hell you're trying to sell.....Craigslist can at least help validate your idea.
In fact, my brother is working on a business making Classical Fretless Guitars (a very specialty musical instrument), but we made him a quick Craigslist ad to see if people in his area were even interested in the service:
This ad took about 4 minutes total to come up with and post. Yeah...that's it.
Immediately he has something up that will gauge interest levels.
NO waiting around hoping.
NO thinking up clever business plans.
NO watrepreneur-ing bullshit.
JUST plain-ole' action and testing.
In a few days with one Craigslist ad you can see how interested people are in your service.
Now Craigslist can't validate CERTAIN business ideas.....but that's why we made the
SumoBusinessBlueprint Case Study Edition....to show you all sorts of different validations (in fact, Facebook is quickly becoming my new favorite validation method).
Peace,
-Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. By the way....if you haven't watched the original
SumoBusinessBlueprint you're seriously missing out.
That was a very non-shameless plug.....because the whole job of that course is to murder your inner wantrepreneur....and show you how to validate your ideas really damn fast
.....and it does the job VERY well ;-)
Email 9:
Subject Line: [7/7] don’t ask your friends if your business idea sucks
Sent day 9.
Your friends are the worst people in the world to ask about your business idea.
They love you.
They wanna protect you.
And it's hard for them to say "DUDE THAT SHIT'S GONNA FAIL!"
A lot of wantrepreneurs will ask friends about their idea, and it goes down like this:
YOU: "Hey Friendly Frank, whaddya think about making costumes for pet hampsters?? No one else is doing it, I bet I could make some money like that!"
Friendly Frank: Hmmm....sounds cool. Maybe if there was something like that out, I'd buy some for my hampster!
.....SCREW OFF FRANK AND STOP LYING! >:-O
If you were actually so enthralled by this idea, you would be waving money in my face!
You see....too many people get this "false feedback" from friends & family. And it's usually useless feedback from people who've never started businesses themselves.
You need to test the waters in the REAL WORLD.
The REAL WORLD is your real audience who will (or will not) be paying.
And that's where these validation tests come into play. FOR EXAMPLE:
If you really wanted to sell hamster costumes.....you can make just ONE set (or just Photoshop the damn thing), and quickly make an ad like this....which took only 3 minutes to make:
You can then show this quick ad on eBay, Craigslist, hamster forums, and to other hamster lovers.
Notice this ad has a BUY NOW button.
If people are sooooo excited about your idea, you will likely get some orders....and can
quickly find out if people will actually pay you money for your idea.
If no one buys, emails, or calls.....then maybe your idea is "cute".....
but won't make money.
These quick validation tests can be an extraordinarily powerful weapon in your entrepreneurial arsenal.
Now using this same concept on this silly (yet sorta cute) idea.....we can validate pretty much ANY business idea very quickly.
That's exactly what our SumoBusinessBlueprintLIVE: Case Study Edition video course is alllllll about.
....and we actually do a bunch of validations on different types of businesses right in front of your FACE.
Peace,
-Neville - A Fatass Sumo
P.S. If you wanna invest in the SumoBusinessBlueprintLIVE: Case Study Edition....
....respond to this email and say I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT! (or something equally as annoying).
Us Fatass Sumo's are trying to decide if we should release it right now or next week.....and we wanna see the response.
See? Even we're using validation techniques on you RIGHT NOW!
....but seriously, respond to this email if you're interested in watching us step-by-step validate a bunch of different business ideas :-)

....there was a CHALLENGE we issued to all you horrible-I-wanna-kill-you-wantrepreneurs out there:
Make a 2 minute video showing how you
first validated a business idea before wasting all your time and money on it.
You can checkout some of the entries here:
http://sumobusinessblueprint.com/hi/kill-the-wantrepreneur-challenge/
.....but I particularly liked these two:
Adil Amarsi's quick validation about texting girls:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GRb6PbTBD0
Tommy Tai's quick validation about memory tactics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SujczZ2yML0
Notice how both these guys just ghetto-tested if an idea would work, and THEY DID!
Both of them spent pretty much $0.00 and spent very little time on their validations.....but now they know there IS a market for what they're selling.....and can get started investing some time/money into it.
Adil got
over 50 people wanting to buy his product BEFORE he even made the damn thing!
So checkout those two quick examples.....it's almost STUPID SIMPLE to validate an idea first.....but wantrepreneurs never do this step, and often find out (painfully) down the line that their business sucked from the get-go.
