Very true Yotam, if it were mandatory people read just one hour a day, 5 times a week, they would learn an incredible amount more.

    Great comment Jason, possibly shirt-worthy!

I feel like any site you would've started in 2004 would've got SOME traction if you kept going with it.

My blog NevBlog.com was an example of that period of time when you could post anything and it would get some modicum of attention because there wasn't all that much cool content on the web yet.

And yes, just DOING ideas really quick instead of stewing on them is a great way to test if something works or not (and gain experience at the same time).

Great advice, possibly shirt-worthy post Doug!

I like the 150-person company idea......if it's big enough you'll have some stability and they obviously kinda know what they're doing thing....but it's also small enough to where you can get some of the upside if they go big.,

Also Warren Buffet accredits much of his success to taking a Dale Carnegie public speaking class when he was younger.

    Thanks for the advice Doug!

Awesome Sam, it looks like you're well on your way if you're doing all this stuff at 23 already, keep hustlin!

Hmmmm.....well it looks like you did it right then Gregg!

Also I think for people with good, high-paying jobs it's not a bad thing to just stay in those jobs for a while and plow money into kinda boring-yet-reliable investments like property or index funds.

People alllaawwayyss say "they want their own business and not a job"....but what they mean is "I hate my PARTICULAR job."

I wrote a lot about this here:

Hey Mark, I agree that college doesn't always set you up for financial success, however I think it's also incredibly useful for some people.

I even remember thinking in high school, "What the hell do people with English degrees even DO??"

I think college is a "Choose your own adventure" type of thing where they promise an education of your choice, but you have to choose wisely depending on what you want.

Yeah it seems a lot of people get talked out of doing stuff "because you can't make a living from it" early on.

I mean, it's TECHNICALLY really good advice, but I think what people should say is: "You should definitely keep doing your hobby, but on the side."

This is the way my parents told me stuff. That I still do work, and that any of the side-projects stayed on the side.

Once you start making serious money on a side project, that's when people in your life will be more comfortable with you taking it full time.

    That's the spirit Shri!

As digital as I am, it's incredible how much power just PRINTING SOMETHING OUT has. I do that with great blog posts all the time. I leave them on my table and re-read them over-and-over so the information sinks in more deeply.

    Keep hustlin bro :)

Hmmmm......good advice, but I have one bone to pick:

When people say "I would want to create a lot of value" it kind of skims over what that actually means.

I think you STILL CAN give a helluva lot of value to any niche you want and get popular!

Well the good thing is now you CAN write all you want, and you also have the added scars of people telling you not to (which will drive you even harder than if everyone encouraged you)!!

Yeah hindsight is 20/20 in that sense.

The crazy thing is there's STILL a lot of opportunity on the internet, in fact I think MORE now because there's so many tools and platforms to "get you out there" without having expensive tech infrastructure or tools.

Back in the day to run a popular website you have to have your own servers and whatnot.....now bandwidth on services like Blogger and YouTube or AmazonS3 is damn-near free (if not 100% free).

Damn Right! Teaches you so much about life....about friendship...about Fun. Fuck the money. Plenty of time to make that at 30....I know I have. Go jump out of a plane.

I think you can use this all to your advantage. Often people from countries with not-so-great governments thrive in a place like the US because they realize what an opportunity they have in front of them vs their place of birth.

    Best of luck Larisa!

I think that's really solid advice Ben. I never in a million years dreamed in 2004 you could make money from a blog. It wasn't even a thing.

Also I think "maybe if I was an investment banker for the last 20 years I'd be richer"....but the fallacy there is I would've burned out or quit a loonnnggg time ago.

So yes, going full-on with anything you do is always great advice. I think "being the best" at anything is great advice, even if it's a hobby that currently makes zero money.

Hey David, hindsight is 20/20 for the stocks and whatnot, but the other advice is great!

Have you gone ahead and done all this stuff ALREADY? I mean you couldn't do it at 21, but you still can :)

    Great list David, possibly shirt-worthy!

I still think most kids coming out of college should learn SOME technical skill (whether it's real life or on a computer or both) that they can meek out some freelancing income from.

Simply learning how to make basic websites and use Photoshop when I was in high school has taken me such a long way.

    Great advice David!

    - Would've been way smarter financially (debt bad! Saving good!)

    - Would've been more adventurous and taken more risks

    - Focused more on experiences as opposed to collecting stuff.
