    The S.T.U.P.I.D. Email (4-01-2021)

(Swipe, Thought, Uplifting, Picture, Interesting, Drawing)

This is a fun email for Friday April 2nd, 2021. Hope you like it :)

    Swipe:

Through the 1950's and 1960's the famous advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather marketed Schweppes Tonic Water to the top through a series of advertisements featuring Schweppes' then president Commander Whitehead (what an awesome name) 😂
I LOVE this series of ads!

    Thought:

    I saw this interesting
about the simplest things that lead to a longer and high quality life.
4 factors together that contribute to longevity:
    • Diet
    • Physical activity
    • Self help (Ikigai)*
    • Mutual help system
*Ikigai: Something only you can do, like watering a plant you own, or nurturing a grandchild.

    Uplifting:

There's a concept I love called Process -VS- Outcome Goals that can help you accomplish goals better by DEFINITELY the goal better.
    Example of an Outcome Goal:
"I want to be in the top 3 sellers of houses in my company."
    Example of a Process Goal:
"I will knock on 10 doors every weekday in the Pacific Heights neighborhood in April and ask for their house listing."

This is me pretending to be asleep at an empty conference 😂
This was from a recent post I did on the declining value of speakers at conferences.
My thesis is that the speaker lineup for a conference used to be 90% of the draw, but now a conference should be more aligned like this:

    Modern Conference Value Add:
    ✔ 30% speakers
    ✔ 30% breakout sessions
    ✔ 30% live workshops
    ✔ 10% assisted networking
As conferences start up again this year (small at first then bigger) the value will no longer be to sit in a room and listen to a speaker talk for 45 minutes....you can do that on YouTube or podcasts for free now.
Instead it will be about the connections made:

    Interesting:

On a podcast with Tim Ferriss and Balaji Srinivasan I heard a term I’d never heard before:

    “Post Economic”

It means you have so much money that it’s something you never have to think about, and you are no longer primarily motivated by the need to make more.

    Drawing:

Here's a Mental Model for when trying to accomplish a goal:
    publicly-state-something-1024x645.jpg
    • Post a goal online.
    • This keeps you accountable.
    • Puts pressure on you to finish.
    • Others see it, maybe contribute.
    • Similar to #BuildInPublic concept.
    • Post your goal + specific deadline date.

Hope you enjoyed these little tidbits, have a happy Friday :)
