The S.T.U.P.I.D. Email (4-09-2021)
(Swipe, Thought, Uplifting, Picture, Interesting, Drawing)
This is a fun email for Friday April 9th, 2021. Hope you like it :)
Swipe:
In the 1950's and 1960's The Manhattan Advertising Agency created a string of wildly successful Volkswagen Beetle ads.
These are some of the more rare landscape layout ads for non-magazine advertising.
These were wonderfully quirky and funny 😂
Thought:
Technology focused companies are generally the biggest in a free market.
Technology = Applying scientific knowledge for practical purposes like industry.
If you create a way to reduce the time, cost, effort to accomplish something, there’s an opportunity there.
Google: Reduced time/effort to find good results on the web.
Amazon: Reduced time/effort to get stuff to your door.
Exxon: Reduced time/cost/effort to extract oil.
Ahrefs: Reduced time/effort to find what search metrics.
Wordpress: Reduced time/effort/cost to publish on web.
👉 Figure out a way to save people time, cost, effort, clicks, thinking, tasks.
Uplifting:
I personally love doing household projects, getting obsessed with something for like 2-4 weeks, then forgetting about it.
Right now I'm geeking out on automating 90% of the lights in the house.
I was gonna go the smart switch route, but then ended up going 100% in on smart bulbs.
This way I can control any bulb from any device:
I'm using the whole Philips Hue ecosystem of products and it's awesome. I installed these smart switches and buttons everywhere through the house to control the lighting, rendering 20+ hardwired switches completely useless.
For example this little magnetic button thing with one press can turn off the entire house when I leave:
I also stuck one to the refrigerator so I can modify the kitchen lights right from a convenient spot.
It's fun to geek out on this stuff! I bet in 2 more weeks I won't care about this stuff at all 😂
Picture:
Did you know the classic magazine ads "The Man In The Hathaway Shirt" is now technically Berkshire Hathaway.....Warren Buffet's holding company?
In 1955 Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates merged with C.F. Hathaway Company, and in 1964 Buffett bought the whole company.
What a neat history from these classic ads to being one of the largest holding companies in the world!
Interesting:
I am a Parsi Zoroastrian.
Zoroastrianism = A religion.
Parsi = A Zoroastrian from the India/Pakistan region.
I always thought the “motto” of Zoroastrianism pretty great:
“Good Thoughts. Good Words. Good Deeds.”
A simple and beautiful motto to live by 😊
