    An educational (and fun) email by Copywriting Course. Enjoy!

    I love "crappy ads" like this because:

    1.) They are easy to make.
    2.) They grab attention so well.
    3.) They make me laugh 🤣

    Checkout this one from the City of Los Angeles:

    This is another addition to my "crappy design folder" for sure 😂

    Wisdom:

    There's a phenomenon called "Traffic Waves" which cause traffic out of nowhere.

    The funny thing is, they're often caused by ONE asshat driver who does something stupid, then the consequences form a "wave" like this:

    traffic-wavevs.gif

    I did an experiment about this in college and videotaped hours of traffic on I-35 from a tall building hotel.

    When you speed up the footage of traffic, you can always pinpoint it to like ONE car slowing down or being too timid in traffic and causing mass traffic for miles.

    Interesting:

    “This was written using a computer.” No one cares about that anymore. Everything is written or read on a computer now.

    Similarly, “Written with AI” will cease to be a distinction.

    My opinion is that moving forward less people will care if something is written with AI, or researched with AI, or created with AI.

    The obvious exception is if someone is specifically presenting themselves as a human author but AI is writing:

    I got married a few weeks ago and it's fun to see a trickle of the videos start come in! I'm still waiting for all the professional photos to come in but with the videos you can grab shots, here's a few!

    Essay:

    This was a random note I wrote 10 years ago, displayed verbatim:

    Here’s the computer program of my life: load (Neville){
    0: Born
    20: Make money
    30: Slow down
    40: Family
    50: End competitive working life
    60: Family
    85: End;
    }
    Yours is likely the same, maybe some variance in numbers.

    Almost every biography I’ve ever read ends with “wish I spent even more time with friends and family.”

    The journey is the point 🙂

    I just read in your latest Swipes email that you got married—massive congrats to you both! As someone who’s been virtually stalking you (in the least creepy way possible) since your early blogging days almost 20 years ago, I felt compelled to reach out.

    Your blog was a game-changer for me back then. While everyone else was still figuring out how to pimp their MySpace, you were openly sharing your financial accounts, revealing e-commerce insights and figures from House of Rave, and diving into all those wild side-hustle experiments. Your unique approach to life—like sleeping on the streets to experience homelessness—was both hilarious and inspiring. That contagious, positive, hacker-can-do attitude you had was nothing short of infectious.

    Over the years, even as you focused your energy on the copywriting community and your blog evolved into more of a monthly public accountability post than the treasure trove of wild antics it used to be, I kept following along from time to time. Lately, I’ve noticed you’ve ramped up your social media game with interviews on YouTube and snippets on Instagram and LinkedIn. It’s great to see you back at it with such enthusiasm!

    I have to admit, during the past few years I was a bit worried about you. We’re about the same age, and while I’ve been chasing the startup dream, I also settled down—got married a few years ago and started a family. Meanwhile, you seemed content doing workations surrounded by fellow hustle-holics. I thought you might be missing out on this whole other level of joy. So it was a wonderful surprise seeing the pictures of your wedding in last week’s Swipes email. It made me feel really happy for you! Yeah!

    If you and your wife ever find yourselves in Barcelona, I’d be thrilled to introduce you to the vibrant community of hustlers here. Let’s catch up over brunch or a late dinner, my treat!

    What a beautiful couple! Thanks for sharing your photos. You look very raj-y. 🙂

    No doubt about it, Indians cornered the market on big-scale weddings. Congratulations! I hope you both have long, happy healthy lives together.

    Love is beautiful, ain’t it? 🙂

    So interesting that you wrote about the traffic waves this week. On Tuesday, the original post you wrote about this that talked about aligning or synchronizing buses to reduce the waves popped into my mind.

    Congrats on getting married!!

    Firstly, congratulations on your wedding Neville! I've enjoyed living vicariously through your posts and pictures and always wondered if you had deliberately chosen the bachelor life (wouldn't blame you, looks like you are enjoying life). Looking forward to seeing what you share in this next chapter and wishing you all the best.

    Secondly, does Noah Kagan have a twin??

    Congrats on the wedding man!

    Love to see this essay, mine is very similar:
    20: Money
    30: Health
    40: Stop working for paying the bills
    ...but mine ends here, for now on is just family, travel and giving back to the community in any way I can.
