This is a fun email for Friday May 7th, 2021. Hope you like it :)

Ok, this ad didn’t age very well....but the underlying principles of it are solid!
- The ad gives strong social proof showing that doctors prefer this brand of cigarettes.
- It has a "sciency-sounding phrase" at the bottom called the “T-Zone” which makes it sound important.
- The product is clearly highlighted in text and photo.
While this ad would currently be considered illegal in most countries now, back in the day it did very well:

Thought:
In our members area we have an email collection tool that scrapes email subject lines, and I was poking around some sites.
I noticed TheHustle (which goes out to ~1.8million people/day) NEVER used Emoji in their subjects about a year ago:
No Emoji in subject lines about a year ago:

But wow nearly every subject line has Emoji!

I asked one of the people at TheHustle what the results from adding an Emoji into the subject line were and he responded:
"We saw a 1-2 point increase, but it also just helped us stand out in the inbox amidst the morning flood."
-- J Scott Nixon (Director of Marketing at TheHustle)
If you noticed, I put an Emoji in today's subject line because of this!

Uplifting:
Many people are afraid to sell because they don't want to sound scammy...they've seen too much bad marketing.
However those old-school "high pressure marketing tactic" are a bit outdated and don't work as well since consumers now have tons of tools like Google and Amazon to research products.
So it's uplifting to see that marketing has gone in a more helpful direction over the years!
"High pressure" marketing looks gross and annoying like this:
"Helpful and useful" marketing looks more like this:

So instead of just trying to SELL SELL SELL, try to be useful and helpful instead :)
Picture:
This is my friends dog Donnie.
He's my favorite dog, and I look at his pictures on my phone all the time and it brings me great joy.
Here's Donnie 😊

Interesting:

Here's how I write email subject lines:
Step 1.) Write out 5 subject lines real quick.
Step 2.) Wait a few minutes.
Step 3.) Glance at the list and pick the one that stands out.
For some reason this has been my go-to method of writing subject lines for the last few years and still works great!
Drawing:
One of the most underrated yet powerful tools I use every single day is called an autoresponder.
It's simply email on a timer:

With autoresponders you can:
- Show new email subscribers your top posts.
- Create a "launch" that goes out automatically.
- Create "warm-up sequences" that sell your products.
- Replicate all your marketing so you do it once, the autoresponder does the it over-and-over again for you.
We're gonna be doing a little class starting June 1st, 2021 called Autoresponder That Sells, where by the end of June we'll help you create & write a 3-5 email autoresponder that sells one of your products:

If you wanna here more about it just click here and that will let us know you're semi-interested!
Hope you enjoyed these little tidbits, have a happy Friday :)
