Here's some subject line formulas you can use if you want to create your own subject lines:

1.) Use the "Heard It Off The Street Method" below.

2.) Use the "Digg and Reddit Method" below.

The "Heard It Off The Street Method"

This is a method of coming up with subject lines by listing out things that if you overhear them just walking down the street, you would stop and go "eergh!?"

Step 1.) Make a chart like this on a piece of paper:

Step 2.) Under the "Something you heard" section, brainstorm some things that if you heard them passing someone on the sidewalk, you’d stop and go "Errrgghh!!??"

Examples of things that would make you stop:

• "I dropped $700 like 10 feet from here..."
• "My dog shat out a $100 bill today..."
• "I couldn’t believe my daughter made $300 from her phone today..."
• "My brother was bald but then his hair grew back..."

Step 3.) Under the "What you're selling" section, write what you’re selling.

Example we’ll use: Wallets

Step 4.) Take the best lines, and pair them together:

Step 5.) Combine them together to make mini-stories. From the examples above we’d get something like:

Step 6.) Use your new-found "catchy-mini-stories" as either subject lines or opener lines to get people’s attention.

The "Digg and Reddit Method"

This is a method of coming up with subject lines by seeing what the general public has already upvoted as "interesting." Thanks to Digg and Reddit you don't need to guess if a subject has mass appeal, it has already done the work for you!

NOTE: You can also use the search functions on other sites like BuzzFeed, Upworthy, or MSN to search also.

This method will give you socially proven subject lines that will get attention. This is because we’re using the social bookmarking site "Digg.com" and "Reddit.com". Here’s what you do:

Step 1.) Go to Digg.com.

On the upper-right-hand corner, enter the thing you’re selling or offering into the search box (Digg is always changing it's look, so it might look slightly different when you check):

Step 2.) When you get to the results page (in our example we searched "Wallets"), then click the tab to find the "Most Dugg" results:

Step 3.) Take a look at all the results! See any that catch your eye? Then it’s likely it’ll catch other eyes too. Try to find the most relevant results:
