How would you make an extra $100,000 in a month?

About 10% of the U.S. population makes $100,000 per year. But that's a whole YEAR to make that money. What if we ask:

How would you make an extra $100,000 in a month?

    100000 dollar bill hundred thousand

I was actually curious how friends of mine would answer this.  So I asked several very successful friends, all from different backgrounds, how they would make an extra $100,000 in a month.  Here’s their answers:

    SOFTWARE BACKGROUND GUY:

“HOW WOULD YOU MAKE AN EXTRA $100,000 IN A MONTH?”:

I would create a piece of software that solves a problem and sell it on LinkedIn.

First I would find a medium to big sized company that’s wasting more than $100,000/month on a problem (maybe something involving their marketing where they have people manually entering numbers).  Then I would create a piece of software that solves that SPECIFIC problem for them.

If I solve a problem that’s costing them $100,000/month, I can definitely get them to pay me at least $100,000 for that custom solution.  Maybe even more, and just charge them half the cost upfront.

I would then contact the decision makers through LinkedIn and sell it.

The key is to make a CUSTOM TAILORED solution, those sell for more money.

    SALES GUY:

“HOW WOULD YOU MAKE AN EXTRA $100,000 IN A MONTH?”:

There’s this whole underworld of big companies that want to get contracts from other big companies, and they pay guys like me to do that.  Commissions can vary, but they’re often $300,000+ per deal you close.  Now usually this process takes over a month, but for a $100,000 commissions I bet there’s smaller deals you can close in just one month.

I would first put a call out to my network saying, “I’m up for hire.  $100,000 commission fee.  I’m very close with (XYZ tech company) and (XYZ distribution company) and can close deals quickly here.”

A lot of this work is about having a valuable Rolodex already, and so there’s certain companies and industries I can close quickly.

    INVESTOR & FINANCE DUDE:

“HOW WOULD YOU MAKE AN EXTRA $100,000 IN A MONTH?”:

The time constraint causes this to become borderline gambling, but I would find companies just about to release highly anticipated earnings and either play the stock or options depending on how much money I had available.

If you were to put up $1,000,000 and a stock moves up 10%….you’ve made your $100,000.

But making the money from scratch would be risky.  Let’s say you only had $10,000 to invest, and it has to go up 10x.

There’s usually no way to inherently increase the value of an investment by 10x very quickly, unless it’s inherently risky.

So yes, you could possibly make $100,000 quickly in the investing world, but unless you have large sums of existing money to play with or insider information, you’re essentially gambling.

    REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER:

“HOW WOULD YOU MAKE AN EXTRA $100,000 IN A MONTH?”:

We actually DID just make $100,000 extra with something we did last month.

Right now the market is hot and people are buying.  We had some extra acreage at a development site, and figured there was room for 12 extra townhouses.  Each would easily bring in between $150,000 and $200,000 each.

Building from ground-up is generally the riskiest investment we make, but we are almost guaranteed a 20% to 25% return.  So assuming each townhouse sells for an average of $175,000 x 12 = $2,100,000.

    $2,100,00 x 20% = $420,000   …..or $35,000 profit per townhouse.

Selling 3 of the townhomes pre-construction netted over $100,000 in profits for us.

    SF TECH GUY:

“HOW WOULD YOU MAKE AN EXTRA $100,000 IN A MONTH?”:

    Several ways:

1.) Go to people who have lots of web traffic, and sell your product through a co-hosted webinar.

2.) Bundle of software.  Go to different companies, put together a bundle of products, offer a big discount, then promote it.

3.) Job recruiting.  You get $10,000 referrals for developers.  Recruit just 10 developers and you’ve hit $100,000 in referrals.  You can find them on LinkedIn, Reddit, developer forums.

    Cool huh?

Well now I want to hear your answers to:

How you would make an extra $100,000 in a month?

I guess you could totally still do this. It's what a lot of shady affiliate marketers do.

I remember this kind of thing was WAY more popular back in the early days of Google Adsense

    Oh snap, great answer Greg!

Isn't it weird how you can easily come up with an idea of how to make literally $100,000 pretty quick?

Now doing just half this work seems pretty damn attainable.

    NevBox Worthy post!!

1.) I actually like this one!

If you could just get 5 big corporate sponsors to pay $20,000 each you'd quickly make the money. Get every god damn student group and engineering and business club in the county to come.

2.) Ohhh, you got me thinking about hiring a group of industrial designers and going around and improving products. The nature of hardware is such it'll be hard to sell....BUT....

What if you got just one or two designers to go around to assembly plants or factories, and replicate certain parts on a 3D printer. This would essentially eliminate that need for that company to keep this part in their supply chain, and just print them on demand.

I think this kind of engineering service will get bigger and bigger in the coming years at 3D printers become so much more capable.

    NevBox worthy suggestion Robert!

Cool theory about how to do it Tony.

What's this $10 upsell? That's a lot of upsells to get to $200,000!

So many people trying to smuggle cocaine here!

I think the "Join the Federal Reserve" part might be more than a one month interview ;)

I do like the training product though. I know people that do exactly this and it works.

I bet for the higher end training you'd need only 100 people to hit $100,000k.

I bet if I was pushed hard enough I could do this.

Actually throwing a really sick EDM party or something could actually make you $100,000+

I've seen people do it. Generally these people have some connection in the industry or access to distribution, but I bet with a lot of hustling you could do this!

Hmmmm......never thought about this. I'm so used to just being able to ALWAYS get stuff in the States, I never thought about these underserved areas.

Brilliant post Dave, definitely NevBox worthy!

I would not agree with the thumb rule, it's SO incredibly different for different sites.

Hard to just say "Have this many users = make this much money."

Think about it, some companies have 5 clients, but make $100,000,000+ a year.

Some have 5 clients and make $10,000 a year.

Wow Dillon, I bet this could actually work in some way.

It's usually easy to FIND rich people with specific interested....but not easy to get their attention....unless ya got something they got ;)

Maybe if you find some ultra-rare Ferrari, and manage to snag it for cheap (probably have to take a loan). You could re-sell it before having to fully pay for it.

I think this could actually work if you act as a "Finder" for people. I mean this is essentially what brokers of houses do. Or brokers of private jets. or brokers of cars.

Holy crap Duane you truly wrote a book!

This is good mindset stuff, and very true. It reminds me of the quote "What gets measured, gets managed."

If you set very very specific goals it's easily to break down the elements to get to them.

Thanks Neville! Much appreciated! I will definitely keep you updated as I move forward with option #1. Your post on HustleCon has helped me too.

I like where you’re headed with option #2, I am still a novice in the 3D printing space but totally see the competitive advantage that can offer. I actually work right by MakerBot in NYC, I should pay them a visit today and learn more!

    1. Sell 2 Million dollars worth of ads a month at my day job.

    2. Get my network of sites to 3.3 Million Uniques and make money of ad revenue.

    3. Sell 1,000 Udemy Courses a month

    4. Sell 500,000 copies of my books which would come out to about 100k a month in profit.

Well I will try something and let you know.

It will be based on the demographics and the type of site, using a drop-shipping model:

Sell romantic gifts to users of a dating site.

Sell power tools, tech gadgets, and jerky to users of men's health site.

Sell cosplay, iphone covers, dragon-ball-z headbands to users of a manga/anime fan site.

Sell hunting, fishing, outdoorsy stuff to a hunting, fishing, guns-n-ammo forum.

Sell survival gear to users of a prepper's forum.

I don't expect to make $100,000 per month, but I really want to try drop-shipping.
