A fun email for Friday. I hope you enjoy!

🎤 Listen to this email here:

    Swipe:

This is like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Luxury Bags. It’s broken down by:
    - The Supremes
    - The Legacies
    - The Classics
    - The Contemporaries
    - The Accessible

A cool marketing experiment for a brand would be to make images and “research” like this and put your brand at the top so people go “whooa who’s that” and Google you 😏

    Wisdom:

A few SWIPES emails ago I accidentally found a way to improve the email reply rate:

    By misspelling "snacks" as "snakes"

    snakes-typo.jpg

I immediately got a flood of email replies from ya'll going:
"They had SNAKES in the green room!?!? 😂"

    Interesting:

This is a cool chart showing the 9 different types of humor. I’ve never seen them listed out like this, super cool!

    Picture:

This is Mochi and he’s my work buddy whilst writing this email 🙂

I am dogsitting Mochi for a week, and have about 400+ photos of him on my phone already 😂

    Here he is working out:

I took him to Whole Foods:

Here he is playing with Sid:

Here he is recording a podcast:

Here he is getting Lion King'd 😂

I'll spare you 400+ more photos and end there 🙂

    Essay:

Inside our members area we've been talking a lot about audiences and communities, and the difference in them.

    My buddy Sam said recently:

Audience is where they're all listening to you.
Community is where they're talking to each other.

I've even been making a private list of big communities around the web to emulate the best.

    Sketch:

The CEO of NetFlix Marc Randolph recently shared how they picked the name “NetFlix” from a list of names based on if the domain was available.

    CEO-of-NetFlix-naming-strategy.jpg

They actually didn’t like the name at first! He said:

“We didn’t really like the name Netflix. It sounds like we were doing X-rated films. But it was the best we could do.”

I hope you enjoyed these Friday tid-bits!
    Sincerely,
    Neville Medhora

Mochi is a living meme! Too cute.

Nice humor chart. I think fart jokes are a subset of Slapstick.

    Community: I am part of
    - Quora — I like the crowd sourced analysis, I can get a range of takes on current events
    - WeCU — a county effort to increase personal engagement, foster feelings of connection, and combat the isolation that contributes to drug abuse. They send out a prompt every month. I've always been "that guy" talking to strangers and randomly complimenting a tattoo or whatever. I feel like this gives me a license 🙂

I am loving Mochi and any doggy posts, do you also love cats Neville?

That anecdote about Netflix is new to me, where are you getting all these tidbits man! Love SWIPES really. It's a highlight of my fridays but couldnt read them in a few weeks as got swamped with work.

Thanks Philip, Mochi is the best!

Yes I also like cats, but cats shed quite a bit. I like Maltese/Poodle/ShihTzu's that don't shed!

All these tid bits come from browsing the web a lot everyday 😂
