A fun email for Friday. I hope you enjoy!

    Edition: Friday, June 2th, 2023

🎤 Listen to this email here:

    Swipe:

I'm feeling thirsty, so let's start off today with THREE DRINK SWIPES!

I thought this was a fun and clever ad from Guinness that was released around the Kings Coronation:

    Kings-Coronation-Guinness-Beer-Ad.jpg

For this Banana Shake ad for McDonald's I like their use of dumb puns!

    “Go bananas” “It’s got appeal”

    I’m Loving It 😂

    mcdonalds-banana-ad.jpg

This ad justifies drinking Kool-Aid over soda for it’s nutritional value and price value. I might call BS on the “nutritional value” of it, but overall this old print ad does a great job of justifying the purchase of Kool-Aid over the competitor!

    kool-aid-ad.jpg

    Wisdom:

One upside of social media is how people are incentivized to put a lot of information in a small amount of space.

    Here's 3 examples:

This image shows four ways of reducing traffic noise to a residential area:

    noise-reduction-image.png

This little square lists 72 different AI tools all categorized:

    ai-tool-list.png

This chart shows booms & busts happening with regular frequency.

I love when something takes a lot of complex data and simplifies it like this:

    periods-when-to-make-money.png

Small square + Lots of Info = Cool!

    Interesting:

The email subject line of this SWIPES email is always pretty standard:

    🎤 S.W.I.P.E.S. Email (Friday June 2nd, 2023)

So I tasked AI to make some better versions:

    Here's what it gave me:

It's cool how quickly you can just generate hundreds of permutations of a headline using AI.

I've been using AI tools every single day to figure out what's useful and what's hype...and have been posting videos about what I've learned in our Member's Area:

    ai-vid.webp

    Picture:

I was out of town all this month, and am excited to be back home in Austin!

Here's a pic of me in Barcelona:

    Barcelona-nev.jpg

    Cool hotel I stayed at:

    hotel-nev.jpg

It's times when I leave this long that I realize how cool it is to work primarily from the internet.

Happy to be back home again!

    Essay:

This happens at every wedding I go to:

People take pics on their phone and immediately post to Instagram where they get shared/liked/commented instantly.

3 Months Later you get an email link from the bride/groom with professional photos…wayyy after the moment has passed😕
I was discussing with a friend that it'd almost be cooler to hire someone to take good pics with their phone and immediately post them during the event!

They would post from their phone, tag people, and the event would spread on socials.
This whole "I'll send you photos 3 months later" thing seems antiquated now and really misses the fun of posting them around the main event.

Also anytime I've hired a photographer part of the deal is I get their raw photo dump right after the shoot.

I make sure they know at the end of the photo session I'm going to pop that SD card into my laptop so I have the photos now!

    Splurge:

Here's a fun book I've been reading: The Wright Brothers.

    splurge.jpg

Reading about historical events makes you realize huge technological shifts followed by fear is totally normal.

In 1903 the Wright Brothers made the first official powered flight, and it's fun to read accounts of how "flight will totally change EVERYTHING and we are not ready for this!!!! "

Now we completely take flight completely for granted.

I hope you enjoyed these Friday tid-bits!
    Sincerely,
    Neville Medhora

Writing The Perfect Email (The Short, Medium, Long Method)

How do you write a perfect email? The answer is...

    ...

    ......

    .........

    ............

    ...............

    ..................

    .....................

    ......wait for it...

    ...........................

    ..............................

    .................................

    ....................................

...you send out 3 different emails!

1.) Short Email: Ultra short, like a notification.
2.) Medium Email: Short, but with some added info.
3.) Long Email: Your full sales pitch.

    Podcast Outreach Example:

Let's say we have to write an email for podcast outreach with the Short/Medium/Long Email format.

    Here's how we'd do it:

1.) Short Email: Ultra short, like a notification.

    short-email (3).png

Hey Nicollete, wanna come on my podcast? About 5,000 downloads per episode.

    -Neville

This "Short Email" keeps it to the absolute bare minimum of words.

Since it's so short it seems very personal, like a friendly email from a friend or a text message.

These ultra short messages surprisingly work the best in most cases.

2.) Medium Email: Short, but with some added info.

    medium-email.png

Hey Nicollete, wanna come on my podcast?

We do a podcast where we interview interesting copywriters and business people, and delve into their business and life.

    - Audio gets about 5,000 downloads per episode.
    - YouTube gets about 10,000 views per episode.
    - We cut up between 5 and 12 Short Clips per episode.
    - We also make a blog post with all of these embedded on there.

Would 2pm CST on March 18th work for you?

    -Neville

This "Medium Email" adds a little more content to the message, giving out some great reasons why Nicollete should come on my podcast.

If you don't know someone well, then maybe adding some more benefits to the request can help.

3.) Long Email: Your full sales pitch.

    long-email.png

Hey Nicollete, wanna come on my podcast?

We do a podcast where we interview interesting copywriters and business people, and delve into their business and life.

    - Audio gets about 5,000 downloads per episode.
    - YouTube gets about 10,000 views per episode.
    - We cut up between 5 and 12 Short Clips per episode.
    - We also make a blog post with all of these embedded on there.
    - You can see some more of the YouTube stats here:

    youtube-stats-cc.png

You would be joining some great guests we’ve had on such as:

Jason Cohen - Founder of 2 different billion dollar companies.
Paul Yacoubian - Founder of Copy.ai
Noah Kagan - Founder of AppSumo

    youtube-screenshot-thumbnails.png

I would love to discuss how you started your business, and where you plan on going in the future.

Would 2pm CST on March 18th work for you? Or schedule a time here.

    -Neville

This "Long Email" is like a last ditch effort to spill our guts and deliver allllll the good stuff about coming on the podcast.

If we send Nicollete a Short Email, then a Medium Email, then a Long Email and she still doesn't respond, then maybe she just doesn't want to be a guest on it.

Ironically these "Long Emails" tend to work the worst in my experience.

Almost always a shorter email gets a better and quicker response.

If you are making a request over email, my advice is usually to try 3 emails in this order:  Short → Medium → Long.

    shot-medium-long-emails.png

I hope this was educational my friend!

Writing Online For Fun (Where will YOU write in 2024?

Here's why I love writing...and not just for business reasons (Video):

Over time writing online has become intertwined with “making money online” but I’d say there’s a HUGE COMPONENT of fun, curiosity and personal mental exploration to it!

“Writing” is often less typing, and more thinking and organizing your thoughts.

That process often looks like this:

1.) You have a bunch of disorganized thoughts:

    5_disorganized-writing-thoughts.gif

2.) You edit, organize, and tighten those thoughts:

    5_editing-a-doc.gif

3.) You end up with a quick & clean output!

    5_good-writing-fast-and-fun.gif

There's so many reasons to write for fun that are beneficial personally and business-wise:

    • It's like mental exercise.
    • The more you do it, the easier it gets.
    • You get lots more ideas by writing things down.
    • It forces your brain to organize and think deeper about your random thoughts.
    • Sometimes an idea sounds awesome in your head, but when you write it down it feels half-baked, so you tighten it.
    • Some of your good writings can turn into social media posts, video scripts, business ideas and more.

    Super interesting!

Why I switched from Wordpress to forum style for our blog

I moved my main website site (Copywriting Course) off WordPress about 5 months ago to make it community-first.

#1.) Here's why I got off Wordpress onto a community platform:

    • We can make inherently social content.
    • Only one system to maintain rather than two.
    • Community interaction is far better than static blog.

Here's what the community looks like (jump in here)...in fact if you're reading this, you're technically on the forum already, just in the blog section:

    copywriting-course-site-blog.png

Wordpress kicks ass for posting static blogs, but to promote a blog post and get interaction you must push it through your email list or social platforms.

Social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc) have natively built in social features.

    Wordpress doesn't 😞

I thought something like Disqus would become ubiquitous and form a social layer through all Wordpress blogs, but alas it didn't happen.

It's frustrating how everything has moved to social, but Wordpress publishing remained the same.

And the Gutenberg editor, whatta mess 😬

I run a Copywriting Community, so people need to post long pieces of copy for review, and get feedback from writers.

This was impossible on FB Groups or Circle.so (which I love, but can't do long and formatted commenting).

For this reason we chose a forum and modified it. This allows users to post an unlimited-length piece of copy, completely with pictures and formatting...

...and get responses and re-writes from professional writers and other community members.

It also allows us to have "assignments" and get answers, then review those answers.

We started racking up thousands of posts, thousands of wins, and a vibrant community from this.

You can see open stats here:
    Copywritingcourse.com/stats

Listen to the podcast above to further hear my thoughts on this (so far the transition has been fantastic)!

Ask me questions if you have 🙂

What Do You Want To Do Next Year In 2024?

Just curious: What do you plan on building next year?

We're approaching 2024 in about a month....and I'm curious what everyone wants to build.

    Do you want to build...
An eCommerce store, a blog, a book, a social media presence, a website, a digital product, a retail store, an email campaign, a product to sell, a side income.....

    2024-calendar.jpg

Reply to this email and let me know!
I will read every single answer!
    Sincerely,
    Neville Medhora

P.S. An easy way to think about this:
Imagine fast-forwarding one year from today...it's almost the end of 2024. What do you want to have in your business or life?

What do YOU think "Copywriting" means? (20+ people's opinion)

The actual definition of copywriting is:

"Writing for marketing or advertising purposes."

But with new mediums of communication like the internet, images, video....the definition of "copywriting" has expanded. Watch:

    Units of Luck

    image.gif

Instead of think of "Luck" as some nebulous concept, think of it like a unit of measure.

In other words: How many "Units of Luck" are you producing?

Warren Buffett talks about how lucky he is:

    • Two parents
    • Speaks English
    • Born in the United States
    • Born during a time when USA was booming

Each one of these added "Units of Luck" to his life.

Here's other ways to add "Units of Luck" to your own life:

    • Be hard working, and willing to do more than someone else.
    • Take more shots than other people normally do.
    • When young try many different things, weed out stuff you don't like, do more of what you do like.
    • Share your thoughts on the internet, this can attract other like-minded people into your network, no matter where they live.
    • Go to places with successful people. Cities, events, gatherings etc.

    Personal Example:

I have a wealthy family friend, and growing up people used to refer to him as "lucky." They said this because most of his investments did really well.

I approached him to be a sort of mentor, and after a year of observation I realized he was just really good at producing "Units of Luck."

He didn't look at 5 investments and all 5 did great.

Rather he looked at hundreds per day, and evvveeerrryy once in a while he'd spot gold.

To me this didn't seem like luck, but rather hard work and effort he put in.

    Learnings:

    • You create "Luck."
    • "Luck" isn't a quality you have, it's a quality you build.
    • You can create more "Luck."
    • People who create a lot of "Luck" get lucky.

Tone of Voice in Copywriting & Your Brand (w/ Examples)

    what-tone-of-voice.png

In copywriting it’s super helpful to first find the tone of your voice.

    Why?

    • If you do it right, people will WANT to read your stuff.
    • Everyone who interacts with your writing will react to it’s style. (or worse…NOT react).
    • You have to write like this all day, so it’s best to at least enjoy doing it!

The good part is, you don’t have to stick with one tone of voice forever.

There are MANY different tone’s of voice you can use in your writing.

    I don’t care if you run a small blog…..
    I don’t care if you own a dental practice…..
    I don’t care if you are a Fortune 500 Company salesperson…..

The tone you use in your writing is interchangeable for different situations.

Take my hand ::eww don’t really touch my hand:: and let’s look at some tone of voice examples together:

    saas-logo.png

Omg…..if you’re a SaaS company (Software As A Service), you often have the easiest job of all. Because all you have to do is SHOW YOUR PRODUCT WORKING!!!

Member Mouse does a fantastic job on their landing page just SHOWING with video the product works:

    member-mouse-1.jpg

Why bother with tons of text when you can just SHOW something in a quick screen-capture video?

Another thing they do well is list a bunch of features:

    member-mouse-2.jpg

Most of the people coming to Member Mouse ALREADY KNOW they are shopping for a membership website plugin…..so they don’t need to extensively explain each feature.

And they actually have videos in the support section showing the features in action, so there’s not much need to use tons of text here.

As you’ll notice, they had to have very little “Tone” because people aren’t coming to this site for the “TONE”…..they’re coming for a working piece of SOFTWARE.

Just show the damn thing in action!

    Also what works well……GIF’s.

Here’s an example from Gif Cam that shows how easy it is to add text on their software:

    member-mouse-gif.gif

Why bother WRITING about how great it is….when you can just SHOW it?

The “SaaS Company” Tone of Voice:

    • Calm and cool.
    • List lots of  benefits.
    • Show the product in action.

    super-vulnerable-voice.png

The “Super Vulnerable” Tone is best deployed for a story that actually feels difficult or “vulnerable” to share.

For example, in this Prey Project copy from AppSumo I wrote years ago…..

    prey-copy.jpg

It was the first time we’d used “vulnerable” copy on AppSumo and it worked spectacularly.

I had actually been robbed a few months before…..and the feeling was extremely violating.  I would literally fantasize about what I would do to the bastards that robbed me if I found them.

…..now that’s kind of messed up thinking right?

Well I knew I couldn’t be the only one that felt like this.  And to my surprise, I got a bomb-explosion of emails in my inbox that day about that email.  Even from people who are already great copywriters:
    copy-reply.jpg

Like I said in the beginning of this article, you can use all these different styles at different times.

For that particular deal, telling a hard-hitting-emotional story was the best way I could get people to use Prey.

The “Super Vulnerable” Tone of Voice:

    • Emotional and heartfelt.
    • The reader should feel your pain.
    • It should be slightly uncomfortable to publish.

    just-steal-it.png

Want to find out the kinds of tone your industry likes??  JUST STEAL IT!!!

It’s super easy to figure out what kind of tone gets the broadest range of people:

    1. Just go to Amazon.com/books and enter your industry or keyword.
    2. Sort by “Most Relevant”.
    3. Either buy the top 10 books and read them.  Or read the free previews.  Or read the top comments on the books.

You’ll very quickly get a sense of how people are writing in this industry!

Now…..this “Steal It” method is dangerous, because generally people who just try to copy everyone else without any uniqueness tend to fade into the background.  However, it can give you some seriously-amazing insight into the broad mindset of your audience.

    Here’s some examples:

Let’s say you wanna figure out what your Tone of Voice should be for a dog training website.

Well, just follow 3 steps above….

Here’s the results for the Top 10 “Dog Training” books on Amazon:

    dog-training-amazon.jpg

Notice just from their covers and titles everything is “Happy” and “Natural” and “Friendly” and “Best Friendy.”

So naturally we can see people like this “Friendly and Happy” tone of voice.

So if I came in with a crazy book title and tone…..while it could POSSIBLY draw a lot of attention, it doesn’t seem like the type of book that most people are actually paying money for.

So I wouldn’t hit the dog training market with a CRAZY AND WILD title like this:

    dog-training-book.png

That title isn’t very consistent with what the paying public is buying.

Now let’s do another “Steal It” experiment….this time on:  Stock Analysis

What should the tone be if we want to write about Stock Analysis?

Well here’s the top 10 books on Amazon:
    stock-books-amazon.jpg

Notice the covers and titles are pretty serious.

There’s a lot of language like “security analysis” and “guide to financial markets” and “technical analysis” talk.  You don’t see a bunch of wacky or super-casual style copy in these best sellers eh?

So if we wanted to write a Stock Analysis site, it seems the best respected books are more serious.  This means I WOULD NOT write super goofy and wacky like this:

    stock-market-books.png

As hilarious as this might be (and who knows, it might even work!)……we can ascertain from looking at all the top sellers that the tone of voice for this Stock Analysis niche is going to be more “professional.

This is likely a function of:

    • The people in the industry are relatively professional.
    • The people who write these kind of books are quite professional.
    • The people buying these books want to learn from a “professional” source.

So if I were to write “Stock Analysis” articles, I would adopt the tone of the most popular material.  That doesn’t mean I’d strip out all personality, it just means I probably would want to avoid looking crazy and goofy.

    b2b-tone.png

The B2B Copywriting Tone of Voice is the most confusing for people.  Most people in the B2B (Business To Business) sales industry think they have to be SUPER FORMAL which in their mind means “boring”….but it’s not totally true.

    • You don’t have to act formal, you jut have to be “Professional-Yet-Human-Sounding.”
    • Just write like you talk in the office or in a sales meeting.
    • Don’t sound like a robot because you think it’s “more professional.”  This hurts the chances of your email being read.
    • Do NOT “just pitch them.”  You need to offer some value to the other person.

When I tell people these rules for B2B emails, they always end up saying this:
    forma-writing.png

    No.  They.  Do Not.

No one wants to read boring-ass emails!!  Especially when they get 100+ of them everyday!

    They want emails that either:

    • Show them something awesome.
    • –or–
    • Show them something that can make their lives better/easier.

Let’s look at an example.  Checkout these B2B email copywriting templates from Yelp:

Here’s a sample of a “Boring Formal B2B” email they would send to businesses:

Yelp Template B2B Email Results (Boring Formal Sounding):
    yep-template.png

Here are the results from this “Boring Formal” email:
    50 Sent
    33 Opened
    1 Response
    3.33% response rate 😞

This email is too boring and formal, and business owners get requests like this emails by the hundreds.

The important thing is to either be REALLY HELPFUL, or STAND OUT to get people’s attention.  Even a little personality can go an extremely long way.

Yelp “Personality Injected” B2B Email Results (Professional Yet Human Sounding):
    yelp-email-1.png

Notice how this email is still professional, yet speaks like a HUMAN, not a boring robot.  It also offers the person some real VALUE.  Not just a sales pitch.

Here are the result of this “Professional-Yet-Human-Sounding” email:
    50 Sent
    35 Opened
    4 Responses back
    11.43 % response rate 🙂

    So……what do you think now?

Imagine sending 1,000 emails over the course of a month.  At the response rates above, you would get:

    • Boring Formal Email: 33 responses.
    • Professional-Yet-Human-Sounding Email: 114 responses!

For the same amount of work Alicia is now getting more than 3x the responses by using a “Professional-Yet-Human-Sounding” tone of voice.

Maybe try to inject just a little value and a little personality into your B2B emails.  It can make a huge improvement.

The “B2B Company” Tone of Voice:

    • Informative and helpful.
    • Write words like you talk.
    • Try not to sound so formal that you turn into a Boring Robot.

    robot.png

    the-fat-sumo-voice.png

The Fatass Sumo Tone is a tone of voice I developed when we were in the big growth phase of AppSumo and I was writing all the copy.  Here he is:

    appsumo-logo.jpg

Since there was already this great Sumo logo, I decided to give him a personality.  And since he is fictitious, I felt like I could get away with waaaayyyy more that I usually could.

So the Fatass Sumo character is like this:

    • He’s brash.
    • He’s super fat (512 lbs ….because “512” is the Austin area code)
    • He’s kinda sexist sometimes.
    • He’s kinda racist sometimes.
    • He eats a lot.
    • He “kidnaps” people to convince them to give a better deal to the “Sumo-lings”.
    • Here’s some (super old) examples of “The Fatass Sumo Tone”:  Kernest, Hiring,  Sumo Business Blueprint,  Blueprint 2

This made for some HILARIOUS pieces of copy that would get away with crazy amounts of Asian jokes, fat jokes, “you throw like a woman” jokes.

I could also make totally outrageous selling points that other wise wouldn’t fly like:

“I currently have Drew Houston of Dropbox tied up in the trunk of my car…..and won’t let him out till he gives the Sumo-lings 85% off a year subscription to DropBox.”

“This Fatass Sumo needs to get my daily 40 burritos for lunch, so I need money fast.  That’s why I’m willing to let this deal go for only $29/piece.”

Were these kind lines stupid?  Probably.

But did a certain percentage of people pay attention and buy? YES!

The “Fatass Sumo” Tone of Voice:

    • Adopt the persona of the character.
    • You get extra leeway to be “crazier” with this tone.
    • First keep the emails informational, then you can insert some humor.

    write-like-you-act.png

Are you super funny?   Then write funny!  Other funny people will like it!

Are you boring as hell??  Then write boring!  Other boring people will like it!

Hi.  I’m Neville.  I’m sort of cheesy.  I’m kinda informal.  And that’s totally ok.

    • Look at my drawings on my What Is Copywriting page, they’re cheesy.
    • Look at my style of writing throughout this blog, or my videos, or my personal blog.
    • Scroll to the bottom of this blog post, even my “All Rights Reserved” is kinda cheesy.

I’m cheesy and so that’s how I should try to write my personal content.

It’s the unique thing my writing brings to this industry.

The biggest mistake in copywriting is trying to write for the middle of the road.

Think about how these people got famous:

    • Howard Stern.
    • Rush Limbaugh.
    • Kanye West.
    • Donald Trump.
    • Marilyn Manson.
    • Dr. Dre.
    • Paris Hilton.

They are all polarizing. Kind of like Kim Kardashian:

    kim-kardashian.png

There will be a certain group of people who hate her.

There will be a certain group of people who love her.

People like this make you agree, or vehemently disagree.  The thing about them is:

    They keep the crowd awake.

So don’t try to be so middle-of-the-road just because one weirdo says he doesn’t like your writing style.

The “Write Like You Act” Tone of Voice:

    • Writing like YOU is the easiest person to write as.
    • Sometime’s you’re sad.  So write in a sad tone.
    • Sometime’s you’re happy.  So write in a happy tone.
    • Sometime’s you’re angry about a subject.  So write in an angry tone.
    • Being YOU is easy.

    perfered-tone.png

You see, I think I’m hilarious.  I know it’s not true as I’d like it to be…..but it’s what I go for.  In the end, writing like MYSELF is the easiest thing in the world to do.

But since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed reading stuff that’s informative yet has a “unique flair” to it.  Gary Halbert or Felix Dennis are both examples who have hilariously funny copy, yet backed with super-informative material.

It’s almost like this combination of “informative and funny” is the best of both worlds:

    • Laughter
    • &
    • Learning

So this is the type of copy I prefer to write.  Other people who like Informative-Yet-Kinda-Funny articles will like me. People who are staunchy and not funny…..won’t.

“Ok Neville, I have a super boring life AND boring writing….am I doomed to failure??”

You’re at a disadvantage for sure.  If you’re not very interesting or have new ideas, it’s hard to get a large audience to follow you.

BUT…..you can (possibly) make up for it in other ways like this:

    Having really insider information:

    • No one thinks Ben Bernanke is a wild-n-crazy guy…..but when he sets the interest rates that govern all the worlds banks……that makes him REALLY interesting and important to listen to.

Being damn good with math and numbers and analyzing the results:

    • I follow this guy Max Roser on Twitter.  It’s not because he’s “such a hoot” to follow……but he creates graphs from data he scrapes, and the results are SUPER interesting, often times I’ve never seen that information presented anywhere but his graphs.

    Doing unbelievable work:

    • You may be dry writer on your graphics design website, but if you’re work is just STUNNING then people will pay attention to that.

Don’t shy away from your boringness:

    • If you have a boring tone…..then other boring people may enjoy your boring tone!  It’s best to write like yourself, and not try to be someone else.  It nearly always comes through as phony.

    caveman-test.png

My favorite test when reading copy is “The Caveman Test.”

It’s basically where you use a Caveman voice to determine if something sucks or not.

You act and talk like a dumb caveman, and instantly things become clearer.  Like with this boring copy on the left, and the caveman’s instant reaction:

    caveman-voice.jpg

If The Caveman reads a sentence and don’t INSTANTLY know what it means……You have failed.

This is a deviously simple-yet-effective way to tell if your copy is boring people, or keeping them glued to the page.

    The Caveman Test:

    • Pretend you’re a dumb and short-attention-span caveman.
    • Start reading the copy and if it loses your attention, the copy sucks.
    • Re-write or totally remove sentences/paragraphs that lose your attention.

Some quick tips to find your own Copywriting Tone of Voice:

    • Stay caffeinated.  That always puts your brain in a playful mood.
    • Make sure you’re not tired or grumpy when writing (unless that’s the tone you’re going for).
    • Have a SINGLE purpose of the copy.  (example: Get them to click the buy button).
    • Use some of the “angles” from the Problem Solving Checklist to re-look at your copy.

Hope your learned something about the Tone of Voice to use in your copywriting today.

STEP 2.) Grab a notepad and pen before starting (for notes)

STEP 3.) Find a very comfortable place to sit and read this book.

    The Ultimate To Do List

This is a daily to-do list format that can potentially change your life:
✔ You can see when work is done for the day.
✔ It keeps track of appointments.
✔ It keeps you more focused.

Here's how you make it →

Start with a blank sheet of paper:

    image for step 1

I prefer using yellow legal notepads, but any type of paper is fine.

    Down-arrow6.png

Draw a line at the top and write today's date:

    image for step 2

For example: Monday, August 8th, 2022.

    Down-arrow6.png

Write out all your daily tasks:

    image for step 3

I like drawing a small bullet point next to each item, such as:
    • Add to Copywriting Course Community
    • Review blog post from Cristina
    • Write email to client

    Down-arrow6.png

Draw a line on right side and add your appointments:

    image for step 4

You can now see exactly what times you have appointments in one easy place.

I like how it summarizes my whole day in one glance.

    Down-arrow6.png

Draw boxes down the page and track what you did every hour:

    image for step 5

This way you know if you've been productive or slacking off.  If I wake up early I'll see tons of boxes filled out by 2pm.

If I wake up late, maybe 2 boxes filled out.

    Down-arrow6.png

Draw a line at the bottom and write a summary of the day:

    image for step 6

Sometimes instead of a summary I'll use this area to write notes.

    Down-arrow6.png

Here's how everything looks when filled out:

    image for step 7

The rough layout of everything looks like this:

    image.jpeg

    Down-arrow6.png

Take a scrap piece of paper and put a piece of tape at the top:

    image for step 8

    Down-arrow6.png

Tape the paper over your to-do list, finish that first task...

    image for step 9

You can ONLY work on this item until it's done.

No other tasks will distract you since the paper is covering everything else.

Start working on that task till finished...

Once you scratch off the last task, you're done for the day!

I make it a rule that once I scratch off my entire to-do list, I'm not allowed to do anymore work.

This to-do list trick has helped myself and thousands of others focus on work, get it finished, then go play.

This is the exact letter that made Gary Halbert a millionaire in 1971.

It was one page, sealed in an envelope, selling them a “Coat of Arms” picture and report based on their last name, and it peaked at making 20,000 sales per day (and these were physical mail orders) 😮

This particular letter was sent to every "Macdonald" in the phone book across the United States:

    cooat-of-arms-letter.webp

For $2.00 (in 1971) this is what was sent back to you:

1.) A coat of arms picture of your family last name, you could then frame it if you liked. Like this (without the frame, it was just sent to you on paper):

    coat-of-arms-photo.jpg

2.) A small report explaining the coat of arms: (h/t to @eston_esau for taking this pic of this in his grandpa's house)!

    Wisdom:

Here's two quotes I really love:

This is a quote about having a goal you're working towards:

    Quote

"When things are hardest, a clear goal is the most important thing. To have a fountain of energy to draw from. Establishing a worthwhile goal is the hardest part. It gives you a place to go and a reason to get up." - Earl Nightingale

This one is about building confidence, and that it comes from having a bunch of smaller experiences of success:

    Quote

“Confidence is built upon an experience of success.”

    Interesting:

A cool pattern I've found with regards to reading:

10 pages of a fiction book at night helps me go to sleep.

10 pages of a business book in morning helps me wake up and have my brain thinking about work.

I've noticed I read too much fiction in the morning, it's exciting but then I don't really wanna do work. So this hack is pretty neat!

The current business book I'm reading is this: Read Write Own

    book-and-breakfast.jpg

The current fiction book I'm reading is: The Three Body Problem.

    the-three-body-problem.webp

Apparently the Three Body Problem just came out as a movie or TV trailer....AND I'M PURPOSELY NOT WATCHING THE TRAILER SO I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN!

    Essay:

I've been thinking of buying a Tesla Model S, and wanted to try it out for a multi-city, mulit-destination trip, so I rented one with the specs I wanted off Turo (I would’ve preferred a black one but couldn’t find that with my specs).

I'm not a big car guy....the reality is I want one main thing: Full Self Driving so I can get around without paying attention.

    tesla-driving.jpg

Almost all my friends have variations of Teslas, and the only one I really love the look of is the Model S:

    tesla-model-s.jpg

Like I said I just want FULL AUTO DRIVING.

    That’s it.

That’s the killer feature to me.

The experience with FSD after 3 days of a lot of driving is: It's definitely kick ass, but not fully there (yet). It's still kinda jerky at times (I notice this a lot more when a passenger is in the car), and 2% of the time it freaks out and scares the hell out of passengers.

My Pro’s of the Tesla Model S:

    • Stupid fast. Like….so fast you don’t really need all that speed. It’s unreal.
    • Everything is controlled by phone, it’s kinda neat to cool the car or heat it up remotely, or just not have to have a key (just your phone) to operate everything.
    • You can see all the cameras from the phone app..it’s like having an 8-camera security system wherever you’re parked!
    • FSD (Full Self Driving) is amazing….I have some gripes with it, but it’s an awesome safety feature to have, and is really relaxing to drive on.
    • FSD is so good at directions, if I was ever in doubt of which freeway or exit to take, FSD nailed it every time.
    • I love + don’t love that everything needs to be controlled from the screen. Like changing directions of the air vents requires a few clicks to do.
    • The FSD feels good having it as a backup driver for safety, and is nice to sit in slow traffic with it on and not pay much attention.

My Con’s of the Tesla Model S:

    • For passengers the Full Self Driving is kinda jerky when slowing down….even with “Chill Mode” on the way it breaks sometimes is like a bad Uber driver.
    • You kind of have to babysit the FSD….it definitely does the job, but you’re not totally doing nothing, you still have to pay some attention.
    • It’s a total lane hog. On the highway the Tesla will very frequently try to move into the left lane then just stay there, which is a huge pet peeve of mine.
    • The yoke steering wheel looks cool, and is nice for visibility (you can see right over it which is neat), and for the most part feels good….but the buttons stink. The turn signals are not intuitive, and you have to reach your thumb to touch them each time. Same with the horn or lights, definitely not in an intuitive spot.

Hope for the future of driving:
I frequently go back and forth between Austin and Houston for family stuff, and I think of the countless hours of driving I’ve done that could’ve been used for something more productive or fun.

I wish I could do work, or read, or listen to podcasts AND take notes while driving….currently you can just passively consume information in a car and not much more.

My goal is that I can drowsily hop in the car, fall asleep, and safely wake up in a different city. This seems roughly ~5 years away.

    Splurge:

I love local-business marketing, and I saw this in a neighborhood while driving in Houston:

It's a simple A-Frame (much like my Shoe Hospital Experiment sign) this window cleaner puts out in front of a house they were cleaning.

    window-cleaning-sign.jpg

A great way of drumming up business is letting people in the neighborhood know you're helping out one of their neighbors.

If you're a service provider like this, spend the $150 to get a nice A-Frame made and stick it in front of your service sites!

When looking at market size it’s helpful to look at the realistic amount you can capture.

I just learned there's different terms for that.

I am aware of TAM (Total Addressable Market), but there's all these other terms below that:

    •TAM: Total demand for a product/service.

•SAM: Portion of TAM you can target and serve.

•SOM: Percentage of the market you can capture or intend to capture.

I saved a couple images from around the web demonstrating this concept:

In 2023 you'd have to combine the top 5 highest viewed episodes of television shows, just to equal just one mid-sized episode of Seinfeld 😮

This random episode they are comparing is not even in the top 50 most popular episodes of Seinfeld either:

The new “Sell a course” is “Sell a community.”

Course sales are lumpy based on launches, communities can level that out with recurring revenue.

With a digital community the 3 factors that change income are:
    - Price
    - Time stayed
    - Number of Customers

This chart shows sample revenue of a community size from 100 to 1,200:

This was developed by WPP and Ogilvy after seeing random rumors on Reddit that Michael Cera the actor created CeraVe Lotion.

    Essay:

One fun thing to do with whatever new business idea you come up with is apply it to a different type of business model.

Subscription Model: You charge $X/mo to get access to something. It could be software, or courses, or services. I personally sell a subscription for people to access my community.

E-commerce Model: You sell a product online, and get it delivered to the customer (either you ship it yourself or send it through a drop-shipper). This was how I made my first company HouseOfRave.

Affiliate Marketing Model: You talk about products, and put an affiliate link and you get a cut of sales each time someone buys. For example this is an affiliate link to ConvertKit, if you click that link then buy a subscription, every month I'll get a small kickback.

Ad-based Model: This is where you get traffic to a website, and you put ads all over it. For example if you go to SwipeFile.com it's littered with ads, and when people click those I get a couple cents or a couple bucks.

Consulting Services Model: This is where someone pays you for consulting. I do this by offering hourly calls that (sometimes) lead into bigger projects.

Franchising Model: You might not have a great business mind, but you can run a template someone else has, so you can "franchise" their business. You can buy your way into running a McDonald's or SubWay.

Digital Products Model: You can sell a small (or big) digital product like a how-to video. I once sold a $10 PDF of a "Problem Solving Checklist" that 1,000's of people bought.

Marketplace Model: These are hard because you have to find people willing to sell a product/service, and people to buy it. Like eBay or Uber or Craigslist. But if you can get one going it can be a strong brand.

Direct Sales Model: You send people a piece of mail, and they send you money for the product. This 1-page letter was how Gary Halbert originally became a millionaire.

    Splurge:

In the Essay above I mentioned the "Subscription Model" I sell for people to access my trainings and community.

The reason I do this followed this logic:
1.) I originally made one course called Copywriting Course which taught some basic copywriting principles.

2.) Then I made another course about sending fun & engaging emails called The Email Writing Course.

3.) Then I made a course on how to use autoresponders to automate a lot of your email marketing.

4.) Then I made ANOTHER course.......and this goes on times 12!

5.) Eventually people got confused on which course to buy, so we made a bundle of courses to sell.

6.) But I realized the real successes came from when people took my courses, but also got feedback on their copy and different projects. This covered the copywriting and business strategy and all the digital marketing in between.

7.) To best serve students we went to a monthly subscription model so myself and professional writers could give them feedback, improvements, and much of the time just re-write their stuff.

8.) We also realized people who spent a whole year in the course did the absolute best, so we broke up the plans into Monthly and Yearly.

Monthly: So it's affordable for people and they could "test drive" us.

Yearly: So people could get help throughout the entire year, plus all the courses, and we could really spend some time helping them.

The pricing plan for subscription eventually ended up like this:

    messages.png

From this model we've been able to generate thousands of Wins for members every year, and on so much more than just copywriting training, we're a community of builders making things:

This graphic shows that learning to use a spreadsheet is probably far more helpful than many advanced math subjects 😂

    math-skills-to-stages-of-life-graph.jpg

Subjects like calculus were hard to get excited about in high school because they never told you WHY it was helpful.

If you give zero evidence why something is useful, it’s hard to dedicate time to it.

This is the same for your product marketing. Are you telling your customers all the reasons your product/service will help them?

    Wisdom:

Cool quote overheard on a Lex Fridman and Kimbal Musk podcast:

"Food is a gift we give ourselves 3 times a day.”

    - Kimbal Musk

I like this quote because I cook almost all my meals, either in the form of meal prep once a week:

    healthy-meal.jpg

I have in the past bought pre-made meals, but there's something very satisfying about fresh food and you know every ingredient that goes into it.

Also I enjoy the process of taking a few minutes to grill up some steak or chicken on the grill. There's something very fun about it.

    nev-bbqing.jpg

    Interesting:

Some angel investing advice Dan Martell said Naval Ravikant gave him (paraphrased):

“Make 12 investments, all of the same size, over the course of a 4 year period.”

He said it roughly follows the old normal curve, where most of the investments will either be a washout or you breakeven, but 1 or 2 of those investments will return all the money:

    investment-breakdown.webp

You can see his advice here at this timestamp: 30:36

I've always lived around Downtown Austin, so if I ever need to get somewhere in a hurry when there's tons of traffic or parking will be bad, this baby has always been there!

This quote means sometimes JUST DOING THINGS to advance a goal is better than pondering on it:

    motion-quote.png

    motion-beats.gif

....it doesn't mean you shouldn’t stop and think, but if you’re feeling inspired you can start writing that article, buying that domain name, or making a mockup…and the motion helps you move forward.

For example this is just PART of my collection of useless domain names:

    list-of-domains.webp

...but buying a $7 domain name is often the first step in helping me take a project seriously.

So what if I waste $200 in a year buying dumb domains? One success out of those can return 1,000x.

Some "motion" towards an idea will help you work on it faster.

    Splurge:

When I'm alone I goof off, BUT if someone is working with me (and can preferably see my screen) I will get lots of work done.

Sometimes working at home doesn't provide this, and I'll often hop onto CaveDay (this isn't sponsored I just think it's a cool service).

    I have a hunch it's mainly a marketing/pricing trick.

    Wisdom:

Instead of hiring agencies for work, l've had more success hiring people whose work I like, then offering whatever amount of money to hop on a call for 1 or 2 hours to work together. It almost always pays off 10x each time.

For example if I need some help going over a webpage, I'll reach out to someone whose work I like, and say "Can I get you on a video call for an hour to help? I can pay $300."

On one hand, this seems like a bad billboard....
    No description.
Not obvious what the product is.

On the other hand, it got me to Google "Really . com" while pumping gas and looking at this thing....so maybe it worked!

    really-billboard.webp

Turns out it's some sort of privacy-based phone service.

However if I was just driving by in my car and couldn't Google this right away I doubt I'd care enough to look it up.

    Wisdom:

The standard AIDA Formula is still one of the most useful things in copywriting a person can learn, look at this result:

    Gus-twitter-post.webp

It's probably the lowest effort to learn, yet highest impact concept:

    aida-template-new.webp

Just remember "A.I.D.A" and you've got it memorized!

    5_aida-formula-list.gif

    Interesting:

Last year I was excited about self publishing another book, but I never put it out because:
The subject matter wasn’t that big.
I doubt this could be an all-time best seller.

...but I still wanna do it!

It'll be only 50 pages and I am setting the pencils-down date for end of June 2024.

I'm just putting it out there so I'm shamed into working on it harder!

My buddy Noah Kagan moved his YouTube studio to a different room, and this is the barebones V1 getting it setup.

I can’t wait to see progress and final result! Seeing behind-the-scenes of video studios is fun.

    noah-studio.jpg

    Essay:

....speaking of watching the progress of video studios, here's a Before/After of my own home office:

    BEFORE:
    Just a raw 13' x 14' room with concrete floors (extremely echo-y).
    nev-studio-before-photo.webp

    AFTER:
    1. Added wallpaper
    2. Put a big ass rug down
    3. Positioned desks to face pretty wall
    4. Hue lighting to control everything

    nev-studio-after.jpg

This one room actually multi-functions as a:
    - Home office
    - YouTube studio
    - Co-working space
    - Overflow guest bedroom

    Here's how it's setup:

    home-office-galery.png

I like how the space is multi-functional. For example if I have the whole family over and we need more bedrooms, the couch folds out into a Queen-sized bed and makes another guest room:

    guest-bed.webp

I can also adjust the lighting with one touch so the color range can change instantly like this...

    lighting-1.webp

    ...to this:

    lighting-2.jpg

    Fun!

    Splurge:

I found a weird snack I’ve been enjoying a lot (no affiliation to this): It's called Obleas by ConsciousSnack and it's got:

    • 6 ingredients.
    • 42 calories for entire package.
    • It has about 25 ultra-thin wafers.
    • You can snack on these for like an HOUR.
    • Can crack into small pieces with almost no crumbs.

    consviouSnack.png

I love snacking on stuff, but if I were to just sit for 30 minutes popping Pringles, I'd eat 1,000+ calories EASILY.

I can sit there snacking on these, breaking them into pieces, and get only 42 calories. There's also very little sweetness so I don't get sugar cravings after these.

Fun little find I randomly found at a store in Austin!

Google Keep is low key the most useful note taking app out there:

    - Super easy to save notes and pictures.
    - Masonry layout is easy to browse.
    - It’s free.
    - Natively ties into all Google products.
    - Can export everything into a Doc.

It's so much easier to use than Notion for me!

I'm surprised more people don't know about it.

I've been pushing it forever....and what makes it WAY MORE USEFUL than all other note taking apps is the native integration into every Google product:

    Essay:

I started noticing the term "Full Stack Writer" start popping up since about 2019.

    triple-threat.webp

I think it's a great term because it means "a writer who can mix in other skills."

For example if you can write, but ALSO use Wordpress, cook, know photography and video, use Excel really well........this means you can potentially be a better writer because of your breadth of experiences:

    full-stack-writer.webp

A Full Stack Writer would be someone who knows multiple skills related to writing such as:

📝 Writing text in an editor.
    🖼 Creating and editing images.
🖥 Knowing how to create/manage/publish websites.
    🕵️♂️ Understanding very basic SEO.
🌅 Knowing how to write on social media platforms.
📊 Understanding how to promote an article once released.
🎥 Knowing how to create videos.
    🎨 Design, UI, UX.

Obviously if a writer knows all these other related skills they will be a much more powerful force!

    full-stack-writer-getting-big.gif

    Splurge:

I'm still surprised how hard it is to write, design and organize a sales page from start to finish.

    5_sales-page-arrange-content-cc.gif

Yes there are templates and stuff you can start from, but you still need to know A LOT of things to do this well.

I currently use LeadPages, and as a hobby project I'm currently learning to use Framer.

I am re-doing our own Sales Page and it's a big project! I'm breaking it into several steps:

Step 1.) I made these slides in Google Presentation that outlines the flow of the entire sales video and sales page.

This by itself took a long time:

    sales-page-slide-show.webp

Step 2.) Mocking up the design section-by-section.

This is where I'm using more help than other areas because I want to improve my own design sensibilities:

    sales-page-before-and-after.webp

Step 3.) Recording a new sales video.

This is being made out of the slides, then further animated in editing. It was also recorded in 4 separate parts. These are hard 😳

Hopefully it turns out great, and I can report back on conversion findings next month!

    Essay:

One of my goals this year is to treat my business more like a 9-5 job.

    This means:
    - A little less needless goofing off during the day.
    - Finish my entire to-do list during biz hours.
    - Just because I don’t have anything to do, doesn’t mean I HAVE to do nothing.

When I was younger and with less obligations it was easy to spread out work across all 16 waking hours. But with more social/family/friend stuff going on, time becomes more precious.

The 9-5 time block makes a lot of sense, as most of the world operates around this schedule.

A few benefits I have are:
    - Not having to commute and deal with traffic.
    - This 9-5 schedule is *self* imposed, not forced.

The Secret To Copy That Converts

ChatGPT will tell you the secret is:

    1.) Know Your Audience:
Understanding the target audience is essential for crafting copy that resonates with them. Research their pain points, desires, and motivations. Speak their language and use words and phrases they are familiar with.

2.) Use Clear and Concise Language:
The copy should be easy to read and understand. Avoid jargon, buzzwords, and complex sentences. Use active voice and keep the sentences short and to the point.

    3.) Highlight Benefits Over Features:
Instead of just listing features, focus on the benefits the product or service can provide to the customer. Use storytelling to illustrate how the product can solve the customer's problems and improve their lives.

    4.) Use Persuasive Language:
Use language that persuades the reader to take action. This includes using action verbs, creating a sense of urgency, and offering a clear call-to-action.

    5.) Provide Social Proof:
People are more likely to trust and buy from a company that has social proof. This includes testimonials, reviews, and endorsements from satisfied customers or industry experts.

    6.) Test and Optimize:
No copy is perfect from the beginning. Continuously test and optimize the copy to improve conversion rates. This can include A/B testing headlines, call-to-action buttons, and other elements to see what works best.

....those are all correct, but I would ask if your copy does this:

    Quote

Does it make people do the thing you ask?

If the copy convinces a large amount of people to take the specific action you asked for (call, click this button, signup email etc), then you've succeeded!

    Sincerely,
    Neville Medhora

Here's two recent picks from my Swipe File that I like:

First I picked this ad from 1911 for the International Exhibition of Tourism in Berlin because it just looks cool as hell:

    cool-old-ad.jpg

That dude is so daper 😂

....and the second one is a "subway map" of the human anatomy titled
    "Underskin" by Sam Loman:

    subway-map-body.webp

I picked this one because I thought it was particularly cool and creative to map out the human support systems in subway format!

    Wisdom:

This simple setup is what Lex Fridman runs a podcasting empire with:

    lex.jpg

The equipment he's using is relatively simple:
    • 2 Shure SM7B mics: $800
    • 2 Sony a6400 cameras: $2,000
    • 1 Cloud Lifter: $250
    • 1 Zoom H4n Recorder: $250
    • 2 mic stands, 2 cam stands, cables: $500
    • YouTube + Podcast distribution: $0
    Total: $3,800

The physical method of creating a podcast is almost irrelevant in his success, but the things that actually made it successful are:

    • He himself is interesting as an MIT artificial intelligence professor.
    • Massive amount of research for each guest
    • Getting A-list level guests
    • His conversations are not very "social media-y" but rather very long, slow, and deep.

It's kind of neat that the tools needed to get to this level are very cheap, but the other non-buyable factors are what creates the success.

This is also related to the next section.....

    Interesting:

When I go to the gym and see a ripped dude I naturally think “what workout is that guy doing?”

    workout-sid.jpg

We tend to look for what specific exercise someone is doing, however 90% of the reason someone at the gym looks ripped is for reasons OUTSIDE the gym, such as:

    • Putting down the fork down when full.
    • Being consistent with workouts.
    • Being consistent with eating.
    • Limited drinking.
    • Eating well.

This concept reminds me of that famous "What you see of an iceberg is only the tip" photo:

    iceburg-image.jpg

While the specific exercise they're doing at the moment definitely plays a factor in their good health, it's mostly stuff you don't see.

    Picture:

    Social Tip:
If you're going to a party this weekend, take some nice candid pics of the crowd and the host.

When party is done, send a thank you text message along with the pics. It's a great way to gift the host a nice memory!

    dinner-photo.jpg

Another pro-tip is before you depart hanging out with someone, say "Selfie or it didn't happen!"

I do this VERY FREQUENTLY, and often it'll be the only pic or group pic of the day.

Later when I scroll through my photos, I remember that memory!

    selfies-nev.png

It's cool being able to scroll through my photo album and retain these memories (otherwise after a few weeks you totally forget).

    Editorial:

Sometimes I like making big-ass lists of ideas.

Here are 103 Copywriting Tips for motivation and ideas ➡

    copywriting-tips-and-ideas-and-motivation-cc.gif

I don't expect anyone to read all 103 of these, but rather bookmark it for later, and if you're stuck for ideas, bring this up and browse through them.
    Here's a couple I like:

    #1.) Work backwards - What’s the goal?
Before you write about something, you’ve got to know exactly what your page / piece is supposed to accomplish. Whether it’s email replies, product sales, or something else, your job as a copywriter is to support that goal.

    #4.) Who’s your target audience?
Avatars are great reference tools, but nothing beats the real thing! Get up, get out, and interview the people who make up your audience. You’ll learn more from a single “real” conversation than any avatar-based thinking session.
**By the way** I've been doing 10-minute phone interviews with people on this email list, asking them about their experience with copywriting. If you wanna hop on the phone for 10 minutes reply to this email "I WANNA TALK ON THE PHONE" and I'll send you a scheduling link!

#15.) Read what your audience reads
Taking on a project outside of your regular niche / focus? The best way to get a feel for what an audience is thinking and feeling is to read the top publications in their field. Where do they hang out online? Which YouTubers do they follow? Start consuming the same content and you’ll be able to think more effectively.

    #17.) Use Google suggestions
Your early research probably involves a whole bunch of Googling. You can expand and adapt your searches by scrolling down to the bottom of the results page and - voila! Google suggests a list of relevant searches you might want to check out.

    #37.) Use earplugs for focus
Pop in a pair of earplugs and you’ll be surprised how effectively the total silence will hone your focus.

#98.) Plug into your clients’ community + use their language
Are you hanging out where your customers hangout online? Do you understand industry jargon and common practices? A great way to sell clients, is to be able to understand their needs and talk like them.

    Right away you can spot:
    ➡ The largest economies.

➡ Economic size differences between countries.

It's so much better than a boring chart like this!

    Wisdom:

Every once in a while, take an honest stock of your life.
    Look in the mirror:

    dog-looking-in-mirror.jpg

How you physically look RIGHT NOW is a direct reflection of what you’ve been doing for the last 6 months:

    • What you’ve been eating.
    • What you’ve been doing for exercise.
    • How you’ve been taking care of your body.

Look at your environment around you RIGHT NOW.

    • What do you like about it?
    • What do you hate about it?
    • What would you change about it?

Maybe you want nothing changed, but maybe there's stuff you DO want changes.

    Write those thing out:

    Interesting:

I bet 99% of you don't know about Google Keep

It's a free "Pinterest-style" board where you can keep notes, pics, screenshots etc in categorized tabs.

You can make your own marketing "Swipe File" with it for free, and it natively runs through all of Google Suite:

    google-keep-images-1.jpg

    google-keep-images-2.jpg

It's awesome to keep quotes and pictures in.....then conveniently drop them into a Google Doc when needed.

So I've been doing these "customer calls" twice a week where I talk on the phone to previous, current, and (potentially) future customers:

    nev-working.jpg
Does this pic make it look like I'm hard at work?? 😛

I've been trying to do ~5 calls in a row each session:

    calendar-1.webp

Some of the questions I ask (depending on who I'm speaking to) are:

    • What made you join? What did you hope to get out of it?
    • What would've made you stay on longer?
    • What could I have done better?
    • How did you originally find me or Copywriting Course?
    • What did you most like about Copywriting Course when you were a member?
    • What feature did you use the most?

I have about 12 questions written down, but for the most part each call goes a little different, and it's super interesting to hear everyone's stories.

I've been learning a ton from consistently doing these. Might be interesting for you to try these on your own business too!

The reason I do these calls is because I'm too "in the box" on Copywriting Course:

    inside-the-box.gif

....so it's helpful to hear outside opinions of what people want and use.

Reply to this email "I WANNA CHAT!" if you're down to talk for 10 minutes!

    Essay:

Since I run a copywriting company people frequently come to me asking if they know any good writers.

Well....here's my easy methods on finding and hiring a good writer:

    will-you-be-my-copywriter-ask.png

OPTION 1 ($): Find a cheap copywriter from a cheap freelancer platform like Fiverr.

    fiverr-copywriter.jpg

OPTION 2 ($$): Find someone just starting out, and train them yourself.

    train-a-copywriter.jpg

OPTION 3 ($$$): Find a freelancer through a higher quality freelancer platform like UpWork.

    hire-upwork-writer.jpg

OPTION 4 ($$$$): Find someone who writes the way you like, and pay them.

    pay-someone-you-like.jpg

This is my personal favorite way to hire a writer. It's just best to find someone ALREADY WRITING THE WAY YOU LIKE then hiring them.

    I'll generally do this:
1.) Find someone already writing the type of stuff you want.
2.) Ask them to do a single project for money.
3.) If like their work, hire multiple times.

Q4 is typically the most profitable time of the year for many businesses (especially retail businesses):

    ✔️ Google ads copy
    ✔️ Autoresponder copy
    ✔️ Email campaign copy
    ✔️ Social media post copy
    ✔️ Website campaign copy
    ✔️ Funnel flow planning.......

....there's a lot of work to do BEFORE these holiday's roll around.
